With Taemin in the military, Key’s solo album and Minho’s radio show, fans were wondering what the leader of SHINee was up to. Following the second-gen group’s first comeback in years, we had Onew landing one of the major roles in the musical ‘Midnight Sun’ alongside idols like GOT7’s Youngjae, DAY6’s Wonpil, NU’EST’s Baekho, and Lovelyz’s Kei. A couple of months later, he was also roped in as the main cast in the new variety show ‘Sea of Hope’.

Fans loved the concept of ‘Sea of Hope’. Alongside cast members like AKMU’s Lee Soohyun and ‘Goblin’ co-stars Lee Dong-wook and Kim Go-eun, we had Onew multitasking as a baker and a singer as musical guests performed at a sea-side bar while the cast members interviewed them and made beach-themes delicacies. With ‘Sea of Hope’ ending, we now have Onew in variety shows like ‘March of the Ants’ and ‘Military Idol’ proving his skills as an entertainer.

Horror series

We also have actor Onew returning after his stint on the popular 2016 K-drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’. December 1 seems to be a good day for Shawols (SHINee’s fandom) because there are reports that Onew has been cast in a new series. The web-drama ‘4:44 Seconds’ is an 8-episode horror series about supernatural events happening in an apartment. Produced by Lotte Entertainment, the show is set to begin filming in December. Along with Onew, we also have Infinite’s Sungyeol, ex-GFriend leader Sowon aka Kim So-jung, ex-Lovelyz member Jiae and Viini of former boy group JBJ.
