SF9 scores first win for ‘Trauma’ defeating aespa’s ‘Savage’ without appearing on show

The group takes their fifth overall music show win with ‘Trauma’, the lead single of their tenth mini-album ‘Rumination’

The KBS Music Bank show of December 3 was rather special for the members of  nine-member group SF9. The group who made their comeback with their tenth mini-album ‘Rumniation’ on November 22 with the lead single ‘Trauma’ have taken their first music show win for the song but it seems like fate was not in their favor as SF9 members skipped the show today.

SF9 debuted in 2016 but things have been rather slow on the “music show wins” end for the group. With 'Rumination', the boy group promised a sensuous concept that was a hit amongst their dedicated fandom, Fantasy. SF9 ended their promotional/broadcast activities for ‘Rumination’ on November 28 and now, days later the members of the boyband took their first win for the song and their fifth overall career win.

SF9 bags their first win for 'Trauma'

SF9 got their first three career win for ‘Good Guy’ from their first-ever Korean studio album ‘First Collection’ last year. They followed that with their fourth career win for ‘Summer Breeze’ from their eighth mini-album ‘Glory Us’ in 2020. For the winning title, SF9 competed against monster rookies aespa, who have been dominating K-pop shows and music shows with their first mini-album ‘Savage’.

While aespa did not appear at the show after they took home their first Daesang (grand prize) at the 2021 Asia Artist Awards for ‘Stage of the Year’, SF9 members were also not present as they had completed their comeback schedule for ‘Rumination’ last week. In other reports it was announced that SF9’s Rowoon will be the host for the 2021 KBS Song Festival, ‘Gayo Daechukje’ alongside Cha Eunwoo of Astro and AOA’s Seolhyun on December 18.

SF9 reminisce their career history with 'Trauma'

The single ‘Trauma’ is a song that reinterprets the groove and sensibility of retro punk and soul in a modern sense. The album is a prequel to mini-album ‘Glory Us’ (Stylized as 9lory Us), and each of the nine members of SF9 represents each of the title tracks from all their albums released before 2021’s ‘Turn Over’.

With ‘Rumination’, SF9 surpassed the total album sales of their previous albums within the first week of its release, and ranked first in the K-pop album rankings in 14 regions on the iTunes album and music charts, demonstrating the groups global potential in the years to come. Meanwhile, the episode of Music Bank saw performances from groups like GHOST9, IVE, Everglow, T1419, ONF, Cignature, Weki Meki, and more.

'Trauma 1st Win'

Fans started talking about how stressful it was to see the boys take their first win for Trauma with low scores initially. One fan said, "Babies congrats, you deserved it!" Another scared fan said, "Can you see how this 7 and 0 were the scariest?!!" Another fan celebrated saying, "Trauma became traumatized. AND I’M STILL AT THE OFFICE."

One Fantasy said, "Congratulations SF9 for your 5th overall win and your 1st win with "Trauma"! You really deserve this win. FANTASY will keep working hard to give you all the happiness you deserve. FANTASY are really proud of you." One fan said, "SF9 TRAUMA 1ST WIN WOO HOO! Thank you to the ones who made it possible!" Another fan noted how member Dawon was on Instagram live and silently thanked Fantasy without saying a word as they said, "Dawon thanking fantasys for helping them getting first place without saying any word."
