Seventeen Wonwoo was a Girls' Generation hater? Past brought up as Taeyeon attends his concert
Seventeen kicked off their third world tour ‘Be The Sun’ with a 2-day concert in Seoul. It had several fun moments from fans worrying for Jeonghan whose fractured arm did not stop him from dancing to the iconic ‘Very Nice’ encore playing for 20 minutes straight. Fans were also surprised by the star-studded audience as we had tons of idols attending from BTS’ Jungkook and Monsta X’s Hyungwon to NCT’s China line and Enhypen. We also had Hoshi and Seungkwan calling out SHINee’s Key and Girls’ Generation’s leader Taeyeon in the audience for not doing their fan chant. But their presence has also brought attention to Wonwoo’s past.
With Key and Taeyeon being close to Seungkwan and having worked with him on variety shows, they were invited to attend the ‘Be The Sun’ Seoul concert. And while new Carats (Seventeen’s fandom) simply enjoyed the interaction, some older fans and especially SONEs (Girls’ Generation’s fandom) all remember the time in 2016 when Wonwoo went viral after some users unearthed his cyberbullying past. It seems that when the Seventeen member was around 10 or 11, he used to write hate comments about Taeyeon and her group on social media.

Wonwoo’s hate comments brought back
While Wonwoo immediately apologized when it blew up in 2016, Knetizens couldn’t help but talk about it. A post on the Korean chat forum Pann went viral after a Knetz created a post titled ‘A celebrity meets her hate commenter’. OP (original poster) wondered if an apology would ever smoothen things out as Wonwoo must have been awkward or embarrassed during the concert by all the hate comments about Girls’ Generation he had left in the past. While Seventeen fans defended that Wonwoo was only a child when he sent hate, a lot of SONEs still haven’t forgiven him as Taeyeon herself was only 19 at the time while the rest of the members were even younger with Seohyun, the youngest being 17 and probably affected by hate comments.
Knetz left comments like, “That's why the solution is not to be on the Internet when you're young... Unless you're a mature kid, if you use the internet when you're young and it becomes your dark past, it's not good for you nor others.” Another user added, “People are shielding Seventeen's Wonwoo as if he reflected on the things he did in the past but actually, Taeyeon was also underaged at that time.”
One shared, “But he wrote a handwritten apology and even Taeyeon doesn't seem to care about it either. Doesn't it mean that if people keep raising the issue it will do more harm to Taeyeon? You guys just want to drag Seventeen and Taeyeon.” Another added, “Pls i find this story so funny, like, imagine how embarassing it must be to have to keep a straight face meeting the ppl you would mindlessly hate on the internet when you were a kid.” One wrote, “It's not that serious... like he was very young when it happened and already apologized for it YEARS ago, if taeyeon had any issue with it she probably wouldn't have came to his concert.”
‘Move on’
After the viral post reminded K-pop Twitter of Wonwoo’s past, fans had mixed reactions. One SONE tweeted, “Wonwoo already apologized. It was ages ago when he was a kid. Taeyeon doesn't seem like the type to hold a grudge for something like that. She has dealt with much worst. She is supportive of SVT now and that's what matters.” Another made a reaction meme, “Taeyeon to wonwoo backstage.” A Carat posted, “I just know taeyeon and wonwoo don't give a f**k Abt what happened back then cz it's all cleared up.”

Another SONE joked, “Taeyeon waiting for wonwoo:.” But a Carat explained, “If Taeyeon and Key hold something against wonwoo they wouldn't be there at the concert in the first place duh.” Another fan said, “Sorry for remembering wonwoo being anti taeyeon and anti snsd all of a sudden.” One added, “The past is in the past. Taeyeon has had many haters in her career and I’m sure she doesn’t have a grudge against Wonwoo.” Another brought his apology letter, “Everyone this was his apology letter now svt anti MOVE ON.”
