Seventeen becomes the first K-pop group to win 'Push Performance' award at MTV VMAs 2022

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: Looks like Hoshi was not exaggerating when he shared that ‘Face The Sun’ would be Seventeen’s most-successful comeback yet. Not only are they on their third sold-out world tour but are also bagging awards left, right and centre. August 28 was pretty exciting as the K-pop boy group won two awards at two different international award shows. Not only did they win their first award at the MTV VMAs 2022, but also became the first K-pop group to win ‘Best Push Performance of the Year’. At the same time, they won a grand prize at Brand of the Year 2022.

While the MTV Video Music Awards has been honoring Western artists, they have started branching out and acknowledging talented international artists. In 2019, they introduced the ‘Best K-pop’ category. Seventeen has been a regular at MTV award shows as they were first nominated in 2017 for the ‘Best Korean Act’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards. They were then nominated for ‘Best K-pop Explosion’ at the Millenial Awards in 2018 and ‘K-pop Dominion’ at the same event in 2021. Seventeen earned their first VMA nomination for ‘Best K-pop’ in 2021 and hit it big in 2022.

Seventeen win at two award shows on the same night

While the MTV VMAs 2022 was held at Prudential Centre on August 28, Seventeen’s presence was felt even though they were in Washington DC for their sold-out concert as part of the ‘Be The Sun’ world tour. The boy group was nominated for ‘Best New Artist’ and their single ‘Hot’ was nominated for ‘Best K-pop’ at the MTV VMAs 2022. However, they ended up winning the ‘Best Push Performance’ award for ‘Rock with you’. If that wasn’t enough, on the same night, they was awarded a daesang (grand prize) at the Brand of the Year 2022 with the ‘Best Male Idol Group’ award.

‘Do not ever speak on SVT’

Fans were impressed with Seventeen’s three achievements all in one night. One fan tweeted, "At the end of the day, SEVENTEEN HAS: • SOLD OUT WDC CONCERT • VMAs PUSH PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR • BEST MALE IDOL GROUP 2022 BRAND AWARDS.” Another added, “SVT won "2022 Brand of The Year" Daesang for Male Idol category ✨ congrats boys!! 🫶🏻 @pledis_17.” One shared, “Svt going to bed tonight knowing they won a daesang, a vma and just played a sold out concert all in a day.”

Another found their outfits hilarious, “Svt thanking for their vmas award / svt when they have to play mafia for kfc crispy chicken combo.” One fan posted, “A DAESANG AND A VMA IN ONE DAY DO NOT EVER SPEAK ON SVT.” Another added, “Anyways only intelligent ppl listen to seventeen only PRETTY B*****S STAN SVT. A vma award, a daesang and a sold out world tour nobody is touching them my boys will ALWAYS BE FAMOUS.” One fan commented, “Still congrats svt for winning push performance 🫶🫶 they deserved it and soo much more god.”
