Are 'Seeking Brother Husband' couple Carl and Kenya in open relationship instead of polyandry?
It clearly seems so! And even the stars themselves claimed that on 'Dr Phil'. When asked what will Kenya choose, monogamy or an open relationship, she said, "If I had to choose between monogamy and open, then I’d choose open every time." Moreover, Carl also openly talked about having feelings for other women on the show. He said, "When I had a feeling of love for another woman, I felt a little ashamed of that like something was wrong with me. And I think traditional marriage tells us that you really can’t have those feelings, and if you do, that’s wrong."
Back then, Kenya's then-partner Charles and Carl's then-girlfriend Jhoselyn also joined the discussion but refused to show their face. Well, the couple themselves admitted to being in an open relationship where both are free to date other people. But with 'Seeking Brother Husband', TLC is portraying their rrelationship as if they are following polyandry.
'Seeking Brother Husband' fans slam TLC
A fan took to Reddit to claim that he knew Carl and Kenya appeared on 'Dr Phil' around 10 ro 11 years ago. He wrote, "I can’t figure out how to link but if you google “Carl and Kenya Dr. Phil” it should come up. Back then, they were in an open marriage where both Carl and Kenya were seeing other people. Not sure at what point they decided Carl could no longer see other people. Dr. Phil was very skeptical and rude to them surprise surprise."
The fan further slammed TLC toward the end and wrote, "EDIT: I’ve since discovered that Carl is still free to date other people, but for whatever reason TLC chose to frame their relationship differently."
Another person trashed the streaming platform while commenting on the post, "I knew I recognized them! Thank you, OP. I found her to be insufferable on Dr. Phil (he’s always condescending to guests lol, nothing new there) but TLC did them dirty describing it without full info on the open marriage." Another wondered, "I hope they address it eventually or it will be a misleading storyline."
"No wonder Carl doesn’t mind being alone! He’s got his own thing going on," a fan connected the dots after seeing Carl not minding his wife having relationships with other men as he himself might also be involved with other women. After seeing Carl and Kenya's case, a fan wrote, "I was reading articles today and they state that all of the people involved in this relationship have other partners. It doesn't go just one way."
Let us further wait to see whether TLC will address that Kenya and Carl are in an open relationship or if will they continue to mislead the viewers.
The new episodes of 'Seeking Brother Husband' Season 1 air every Sunday at 10 pm ET on TLC.
