Ever since Marvel had announced ‘Zombies’ original series last year, fans had started predicting what characters could be a part of it and what could be the teams of both Zombies vs Superheroes and would it be an R-rated series or not. Now finally, Marvel Studios has officially revealed at the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2022 that ‘Marvel Zombies’ would be an R-rated original series

The executives also promised that there would be lots of gore and violence as well. ‘Marvel Zombies’ is taking place in the same universe of ‘What If... Zombies?!' which is also a part of MCU, and would involve zombified versions of antagonists and Marvel heroes.

Conceptualized and helmed by storyboard artist Bryan Andrews, who is known for his incredible work with ‘What If…,’ ‘Avengers: End Game,’ and so on, it was revealed how ‘Marvel Zombies’ would be featuring the zombie versions of MCU iconic villains like Hawkeye, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Wanda Maximoff and Okoye. These villains would be seen fighting it out with the eternal Marvel superheroes like Ms Marvel, Jimmy Woo, Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, Shang-Chi, Katy and Death Dealer. There would be an ultimate war between good and evil in this R-rated series revolving around the Zombies who are also now a part of the fantasy universe within Marvel.

Many fans immediately took to their accounts on Twitter and started sharing their thoughts and reactions on same. Whilst many of them praised Marvel Studios for bringing a new and fresh R-rated series based on zombies, some of them replied how the makers have come in quite a bit late now with their entry into the zombie craze. Overall, the ardent ‘Marvel’ fans got thrilled on the confirmation that they all would be seeing their favorite superheroes and villains together sharing same screen space.

“Now that’s exciting!!!!,” shared a fan. “This is obnoxiously late to the zombie craze, and i doubt there’s a good artful reason for why they’d want to do this. And were gonna call they do a cod zombies marvel zombies cross over at some point because why not,” said a fan. “Please be good. No forced comedy please,” added another fan. “Oh shit, for real? Now I know Marvel Studios is all in on R Rated stuff! But more exciting? R Rated Horror from Marvel!,” shared a fan. “Never has a sentence started so uninteresting yet ended so tantalizingly,” a fan noted. “The OG marvel zombies episode sucked. Part of what made the comic great is that the heroes actually kept their intelligence/personalities when they became zombies, they just had an uncontrollable urge to eat people. What if just turned them into boring generic zombies,” shared a fan.

Speaking about the original comics, they had first been published in 2005 by ‘The Walking Dead’ creator Robert Kirkman. The comics were based on the novel idea of a virus that ended up spreading completely across an alternate universe. Not only that, but it also ended up infecting planet Earth's Mightiest Heroes which stemmed from a particular arc of the Ultimate ‘Fantastic Four’, in which zombie Reed Richards ends up changing his sides by tricking his ultimate counterpart into opening the gateway between their universes, thus unleashing the virus. It would be an interesting wait now to witness how the makers present this iconic storyline with their fresh spin and concept of Zombies vs Superheroes.

‘Marvel Zombies’ has not revealed their official release date, but it is expected to drop on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
