HYBE editors call BTS star 'Chicken Jimin' in video, ARMY slam use of insulting name

An editor mistook Yoongi's nickname for Jimin in a video and captioned it as 'Chicken Jimin' in the Korean subtitles

It is no secret that ARMY are quite protective of BTS. Before they became the global sensation they are right now, they got hate from their own country and were subject to racist and sexist remarks when they first debuted. The only thing that made it bearable was that their label BigHit (which is now under HYBE LABELS) always took swift action and protected the boys. This is why fans were more upset when the recent disrespect to Jimin was from the video editors of HYBE themselves.

While there are still the occasional trolls and antis that target BTS even now, ARMY explained that they never expected HYBE to resort to the same antics. What caused an uproar among the fans was BTS’ latest YouTube video. On October 28, their YouTube channel BANGTANTV uploaded a behind-the-scenes type of vlog of the global K-pop group when they had gone to New York to attend UNGA (United Nations General Assembly). At one point, the Korean subtitles mention Jimin as ‘Chicken Jimin’. Korean fans explained that nicknaming someone ‘chicken’ is derogatory as it is associated with a political scandal and also means brainless and stupid.

A HYBE editor uses an insulting nickname

It should be noted that the subtitles were for Yoongi who called his group member ‘Park Jaoi Min’ which is a combination of Jimin’s name and ‘I am sorry’. With the editor presumably being Korean, it has further enraged fans since the one who added the subtitle should have known not to use any insulting nickname. On top of that, ARMY shared that the phrase ‘Chicken Jimin’ was actually used by antis and haters for a long time. This is also not the first time that the HYBE staff have come under fire. Previously, they were slammed for giving BTS ill-fitting shoes and outfits during their latest ‘PTD’ concert that could have been dangerous as one member even lost his shoe mid-performance.

‘This is disgusting’

Angry fans have been trending ‘Hybe Respect Jimin’ and ‘Hybe Clean Your Editors’ with tweets like, “Apparently on the new Bangtan Bomb, the subtitles in Korean provided by HYBE put in the subtittles instead of Front-facing baby chick’s name, a nickname used by an/tis and h@te blogs. We want the subtitles fixed and the employee repreended. HYBE RESPECT JIMIN,” and “Jimin deserves so much better, especially from his own company. This is disgusting on your behalf hybe. HYBE CLEAN YOUR EDITORS.” Another ARMY added, “I just read something about the editor’s disrespecting jimin and i am not all up about it they better do something about this or else i will go in there myself my baby does not deserve that shit excuse me HYBE CLEAN YOUR EDITORS like asap thank you.”
