First meeting of Queen Charlotte and King George explained
'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story' Episode 1 touches on the contractual marriage of Queen Charlotte with King George fixed by the Queen's brother, Adolphus. It was seen in the episode that Queen was reluctant for marrying the King, however, her brother stated, "This is a good thing. You shall be happy." Unfortunately, the queen was still fixated on her decision, which persisted till she finally met with the King while she was trying to escape the palace by climbing a wall. When the queen arrived at the palace, she was confronted with Queen Augustus, who pointed at her skin color, asked her to show her hands, nails, and teeth.
Queen Augustus added, "You have good hips, you will make lots of babies." Later, when Queen Charlotte pointed when she will be meeting King George, she was interrupted by Queen Augustus. Clearly, Queen Charlotte was afraid of what the young king is actually like, as she was ignored at many occasions whenever she referred or asked about the king. It was until after all the guests have arrived for the wedding, when Queen Charlotte was trying to escape, that she met the King.
The first meeting of Queen Charlotte and King George was delightful and engaging. It was their first meeting only that convinced the queen to marry the king, as he was very honest, handsome, caring, loving, humorous, and charming towards her. Moreover, he was swearing the queen to call him "George," and not "His Majesty," which left her in awe.
When Adolphus arrived, King George was particular and persistent over the queen's decision to marry him and did not force her, irrespective of the marriage agreement. Before leaving, King George gave a kiss on Charlotte's hand, and said, "I hope I see you in there." Overall, the first meeting with the King amazed the Queen, and changed her decision of marrying right away.
How did George surprise Charlotte after their wedding?
While the guests were leaving and Queen Charlotte and King George were bidding a royal farewell, King George tells Queen Charlotte that he has a surprise for her, after which the queen was excited. When they both arrived at the Buckingham House, Queen Charlotte was awestruck with the beauty of the house. Sadly, she felt betrayal, hurt, and shocked when King George mentioned that it was her house where she will be living while King himself will be staying at the Kew residence.
The queen, profoundly confused, asks the king to spend the night together as it was their wedding night, to which King George responds in anger and wants her to call him 'His Majesty' as he is her King. The episode ends with Queen Charlotte regretting over her decision and adds, "I should have gone over the wall." The episode has left fans wondering over King George's dishonest and disassociative identity, and the marriage life of Queen Charlotte and King George. Let's see what happens in the next episode.
