LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: The third season of Netflix's Bridgerton might be facing a delay after the makers of the show believe that some of the storylines have gone "too dark" and need to be rewritten. The show's producer, Shonda Rhimes, reportedly wanted the script to go through a few changes as she wants to give the viewers more joy.

According to sources working on the sets of the historical romance drama, concerns were raised over a sex plotline. "Filming has been delayed due to the screenwriter not being happy with the direction of it. We have been told that it needs the fun back so there are changes, which of course means delays. One thing is for sure though, the production team want to get it right for Bridgerton fans so they enjoy it as much as they have in the past. There are some elements that Shonda is just not happy with so wants to change them. Some of it got very dark," said a source to the Daily Mail on Sunday, December 31.

The makers of the hit Netflix show are yet to schedule a premiere date for the release of its third season. However, taking note of the changes being made, 'Bridgerton' Season 3 is likely to release later than the expected date. On April 13, 2021, Netflix confirmed a third and fourth season of the American award-winning show. The network's drama is based on the romance novel series written by author Julia Quinn.

Simone Ashley, who portrays Kate Sharma, expressed her happiness when reading the scripts. "When I receive them, I’ve got a beaming smile on my face," she said, as per the outlet. She even confirmed that the third series is going to be "super steamy" and added that it would be "condensation central."

Skipping the third book from the novel series, the third season will instead be based on the fourth book, called 'Romancing Mister Bridgerton'. The story will find romance blossoming between Penelope, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. The upcoming installment will follow the pair going from friends to lovers.

The regular cast members of the show will reprise their roles once again. Moreover, the next season is due to come after ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’, a prequel spin-off series that focuses on the rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte, the real-life wife of George III.
