'Pennyworth' Season 3 Episode 5 Review: Trouble in paradise? Martha feels betrayed by Thomas as she points a gun at him

The episode starts with a time jump to the past when Alfie leads a team in Morocco to retrieve Sandra's dad. It cuts to the main timeline of the series where Alfie is in London and learns that Sandra is close to finding out where her beloved long lost father actually is. Speaking of father, Thomas Wayne who eloped to Gotham in the last episode is seen to arrive at the beautiful Wayne Manor and has a little weird reunion with his father. He insists his dad to remember something fondful from his childhood. However, what is shocking is that the duo who are always seen butting head against one another are incredibly emotional and embrace each other in a hug. Although Thomas quickly changes his mind and leaves.

After Sandra gave a public speech and Alfie speculates if the Prime Minister has any hand in Sandra's dad's disappearance, Pennyworth is seen again in bed with Sandra. On the other hand, Bet appeared much later on the series where fans speculated that she might have been the main focus of this episode. She was being held captivated at the office of the chancellor where Salt was trying to get a word out of Bet's mouth as to how did she find him. Soon, he threatens her to kill the baby and blows up the empty pram of baby Julie which leads Bet to spill the beans as moments. Another shocking revelation our titular character had is when he was going to retrieve the gun from his mother's house he found out about Roger and Mary.

Now, the most interest part of the episode kicks in. Alfie’s new love interest finds out about her father from a source where she learns he’s held hostage in a hidden jail within the country. Alfie tries to intervene in the conversation when the source recognises him and tells Sandra Alfie was the one of the British soldiers who took her father. Hearing this, Sandra points a gun at Alfie when he convinces Sandra that the source was the one who ratted her dad out, which leads Sandra to kill the source and walk away from the scene leaving Alfie standing there alone. Safe to say, that love story was short lived. Bet traces back to baby Julie and when Salt attacks her, she kills him and escapes with the child. However, Bet is heavily wounded as Salt stabs her. Bet places Julie in a mini van and instructs the man to take the child to her sister, Pegg. Following this, Bet passes out. Is she dead or just has collapsed? It is yet to be figured.

Now, the most interesting part has come when daddy Peter is seen walking out of a bar in Gotham a shadowy figure follows him in an alleway and shoots him. Wonder who is the shadowy figure? It is none other than his beloved son, Thomas. Quite interesting, ain't it?

You can stream the sixth episode, titled 'Hedgehunter' on HBO Max.
