'Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler' Season 3 is all set to introduce some new characters in the mix, and one of them is Patrick Wayne, Bruce Wayne's grandfather who was introduced in the trailer. The new season sees Jack Bannon's wicked-witty man of many skills take on a new threat and adding some drama to it is the Waynes.

Creator Bruno Heller had earlier teased about Patrick. "Keep an eye out: All is not as it seems with these two," he said, while also adding that the character's arrival is to tell the audience that the series is very much a part of Batman's universe. Ahead of the series premiere, we look at what we know about him and his role in the new season.

What is Patrick Wayne's role in 'Pennyworth' Season 3?

Per EW, here's a tease of what to expect from Wayne Sr in Season 3, "Following the birth of their daughter (wasn't that a twist?), Thomas (Ben Aldridge) and Martha (Emma Paetz) are unnerved by the unexpected arrival of Thomas' father Patrick Wayne and his lover Virginia Deveraux (Lorraine Burroughs). Keep an eye out: All is not as it seems with these two. "Patrick Wayne's arrival reminds us that this is the Batman world and this is a very dysfunctional family," Heller says. "Virginia is a loose cannon thrown into that. She is not who she appears to be at first."

In the comics, Patrick Wayne is the former CEO of Wayne Enterprises, the father of Thomas Wayne, and Bruce Wayne's grandfather. With the series set well before Batman's birth, it makes sense for the show to introduce more members of the Wayne family. Created by Scott Beatty and Marshall Rogers, Patrick first appeared in the 'New Earth' timeline and was mentioned in 'Batman: Secret Files and Origins #1'. He was looked at as one of the key faces behind Gotham city's growth. By the looks of it, there might be a more antagonistic role in store for the character who makes his maiden appearance on the show.

The official synopsis reads, "The DC origin series 'Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman's Butler' follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and his wife Martha (Emma Paetz) before they become Bruce Wayne’s parents. Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains."

'Pennyworth' Season 3 premieres October 6 on HBO Max.
