The K-pop group ONF had a very successful comeback with ‘Popping’ but also left fans heartbroken with a surprise announcement on November 9. The two sub-unit leaders of the group came together and informed their fanbase that the five Korean members out of the six member group were going to enlist in the military together. Writing about the upcoming hiatus, they reassured fans that it was something magical.

The handwritten note from Hyojin and J-US from ONF mentioned that after much deliberation the six members of the group decided that it would be in the interest of fans as well as the members of the group to finish their military enlistment together at the same time. The decision means the ONF's "enlistment era" will last only 18 months instead of dragging on for years, which would have been the case if each member enlisted alone, one after the other, leaving a vaccum in the group everytime. Fans would have to deal with a long period of ‘no content’ or settle for ONF music projects without the enlisted members. The decision to enlist together was also made because the members did not want to stay away from each other for a period longer than 18 months while U, the only Japanese member of the group, stayed all alone, waiting for his band mates to return.

ONF announce next comeback too

On the same day ONF had made the enlistment announcement, they also revealed that they would give their fans a farewell gift in the form of a new album to enjoy before they all return. ONF became the first K-pop group (with more than two members) to enlist together and fans were extremely proud of this decision from the group. ONF announced the release date of their new album on November 11 and said they would be coming back for the last time before taking a short hiatus.

ONF group will release their sixth mini-album titled ‘Goosebumps’ on December 3 and finally enlist in the military after promoting the album at various music shows. On November 20, WM Entertainment, the label that manages the group released the first group photo for the upcoming release. The members of the group stand out with all new hair colors while they appear to be wearing colorful, unique, and casual outfits.

ONF members for ‘Goosebumps’

ONF members redefine duality as the members look soft while also exuding intensity while staring down into the camera. All six members also appeared in solo photos which were released with the concept of ‘SPACETIME,’ raising questions from fans if ONF was on their mission to travel to space for their next album. The music video for ‘Popping’ left fans confused during the last comeback as fans wondered how the album that was described as "cheerful" with a summer bop vibe turned out to be so extreme with all the members of the group potentially dying in the story presented in the music video.

This time around, fans are expecting some questions from the ‘Popping’ era to be answered as ‘Goosebumps’ is set to release soon. The group released their comeback schedule that revealed that the group will tease the new album all through November and finally release a special song for fans on the same day as the release of the album on December 3, 6 pm KST (4 am ET).

ONF’s rise to the top

The year 2021 was really remarkable for ONF who rose to the top of major domestic music charts with the title song ‘Popping’ from their album of the same title that was released in August this year. The album took the top spot right after its release while the music video for ‘Popping’ crossed 10 million views within two days of its release. Not only that, but the song also took second place on Billboard's ‘World Digital Song Sales’ and came number one on the local iTunes ‘Worldwide Song Chart’ and ‘K-Pop Song Chart’ for seven days.
