ONF enters Billboard with 'Popping' at No 2, fans call it ‘summer song of the year’

ONF's recent album 'Popping' is topping several charts like Bugs, iTunes and Billboard

ONF came back quite recently with the album ‘Popping’. It is their sixth mini-album that was released on August 9. Along with it, the title track of the same name ‘Popping’ has been doing pretty well by breaking their own personal records such as Billboard. They topped several reputable South Korean charts like Bugs. ‘Popping’ entered the top 100 of Genie and charted at #2 on Gaon Album Chart. Its music video also reached 10M YouTube views in just 48 hours of its release.

Additionally, they have also made a name on international charts like Billboard and iTunes. As of this week, ONF’s lead single ‘Popping’ has debuted on Billboard. Not only that, it is at #2 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. Fuses were overwhelmed as the K-pop boy group is finally getting their much-deserved recognition. Their last single ‘Ugly Dance’ debuted at #8 on Billboard and was the first ONF song to enter the international chart.

ONF charts high on Billboard

But other than charting high, the group has also entered a second Billboard chart. ‘Popping’ ranked at #38 on the Digital Song Sales Chart which is different from the World Digital Song Sales’ chart. Along with that, the album charted high on USA’s iTunes Worldwide Song Chart for seven days straight. It also topped iTunes in 15 countries including the likes of USA and UK. It also topped the iTunes Top 100 World Music Album chart.

Fuses have been going out of their way to hype the release as the comeback also topped several Twitter trends along with Hanteo’s real-time music chart and broke their own first-week sales record. It was around 87k sales according to Hanteo on August 15 which makes it their best-selling album to date. Along with securing the #2 on Gaon Album Chart, they also ranked #2 on Gaon’s Download Chart and Retail Album Chart and #3 on the BGM Chart.

The lead single ‘Popping’ is part of the summer album, but if one knows ONF their songs are anything but straightforward. With a music video of an epic scale, ‘Popping’ tells us an odyssey of a tale of the boys. The song is a bright and energetic synthpop track with a catchy hook. But the music video is definitely darker with the message that we can get over bad times as long as we have our happy memories. That’s the plot twist no one seems to be ready for as we see that the fun summery first half of the music video are the memories that the boys are reminiscing about as they’re in an apocalyptic present.
