Omega X ‘What’s Goin’ On?’: Rookie group with idols of disbanded bands drop single

Omega X consists of members who were part of other groups that are now inactive or have disbanded like 1THE9, ENOi and 1Team

After just two months of their debut, Omega X is back again with the single album ‘What’s Goin’ On?’ The 11-member boy group first debuted with the EP ‘Vamos’ and the title track of the same name in June 2021. But what caught fans’ eye were the members. It is not unusual to have an already debuted idol join a group and debut once more. But almost all of the members of Omega X have participated in survival shows and have been a part of a K-pop group before.

When the lineup of Omega X was revealed, For X (fandom name) couldn’t help but notice the familiar faces. Many are from groups that disbanded or are from inactive groups that are on hiatus due to undisclosed reasons. A majority of the members had their careers stalled because of military enlistment. Fans of these former idols were touched that they got a second chance through Omega X. Well, to make up for lost time, the boys are back with the music video of ‘What’s Goin’ On?’

‘What’s Goin’ On?’ music video

Omega X released their first single album ‘What’s Goin’ On?’ on September 6. Along with the title track of the same name, the single album also has the track ‘Baila Con Ox’. They also dropped a music video for ‘What’s Goin’ On?’ To complement the futuristic hip-hop song full of EDM and trap sounds, the boys made an equally gritty music video. With an intense choreography, we see the group dance in grunge locations in darkcore outfits.

Concept photos

The single album has three sets of concept photos. In the first E version, the boys are dressed in colorful leather racing suits. We see a mature side to them in the next concept — the F version — as they sport sleek suits and preppy outfits. In the S version, Omega X takes a refreshing route with white and pastel outfits surrounded by greenery.

Who are the members of Omega X

It is also worth pointing out that Omega X is quite different from other rookie groups since they have members who are already debuted idols and hence bring along their past experiences in the industry. Unlike young idols, they are seasoned professionals and this shows in their discography and performances. This can also be seen with how well the group's single album did, ranking #6 on Ktown4u and #4 on Hanteo’s real-time chart. As they are all-rounders, they do not have any positions in the group and all of them seem to be leaders and equally contribute to the group's success.

Jaehan was previously the main vocalist of Spectrum that disbanded in 2020 due to Covid-19. He also participated in the survival show ‘Produce 101’s’ season 2 that formed the group Wanna One.

Hwichan previously went under the stage name Raychan and is the main vocalist in the inactive group Limitless whose company shut down.

Sebin is the maknae (youngest) and the face of the group of the third-gen inactive group Snuper. Most of the members are in the military at the moment.

Hangyeom went under the stage name A-Day while he was in the group Seven O’Clock. He was the leader, main rapper, main dancer and visual before it disbanded in March 2021. He also won the survival show ‘Mixnine’ by ranking #6.

Taedong also participated in ‘Produce 101’s’ season 2 and ‘BOYS24’ that formed the boy group IN2IT. He was the main dancer in Gidongdae that disbanded before they could debut in January 2021.

Xen was the main vocalist of 1Team as Jinwoo before it disbanded in March 2021.

Jehyun was the main dancer in 1Team.

Kevin was a vocalist under the stage name Jinwoo in ENOi before they disbanded in January 2021.

Junghoon was the main dancer of ENOi under the stage name J-Kid.

Hyuk was the maknae and visual of ENOi.

Yechan won the survival show ‘Under19’ by ranking #4. He had then debuted in 1THE9 as the main vocalist before they disbanded in August 2020.

Fans couldn’t get over how amazing the music video for ‘What’s Goin’ On?’ was. They put out tweets like “Its only been 2 months since their debut,” “I HAVE NO WORDS #OMEGA_X NEVER FAILS TO AMAZE EVERYONE,” and “Hello they are all so fine????” Another For X added, “The way this song started had me on my knees.”
