Original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson creating new 'Power Rangers' comic series
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' alum Amy Jo Johnson, who played the original Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart, is officially making a comeback to create a brand-new 'Power Rangers' comic series. While the official details are scarce, Johnson said that she first got the idea for the project in 2020.
'Power Rangers: A 30th Anniversary Comic Book Celebration' will chronicle the first three decades of the 'Power Rangers' franchise and will release in 2024. Johnson will pen the comic books with her partner and director Matt Hotson, and publisher BOOM! Studios, which started a kickstarter campaign for the series that quickly exceeded its $250,000 goal in less than 24 hours. Johnson thanked her fans while announcing the big news.

'I'm honoured'
Addressing her fans, Johnson wrote, “It’s been decades since I first put on the Pink Ranger suit, which started my career in the entertainment industry. I had no idea the impact this character would have on so many children. I was your friend, and you’ve supported my career through all its twists and turns, and now thirty years later, I’m honoured to have the opportunity to say thank you by writing this new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book series with Boom! Studios as a love letter to all of you!” per AIPT Comics.
'Its my version'
Speaking to Variety, Johnson recalled getting the inspiration for writing her own comic series three years ago. She said, “I was daydreaming about it and mentioned it to my boyfriend, Matt. He said, ‘Why don’t you try to write it as a comic book?'” adding, “We had all the time on our hands, so we daydreamed up this entire comic book series knowing the 30th anniversary was coming.”
Johnson promised that the new series would be “different” from the original, “in the sense that it’s my version.” The actor also revealed that she went back and watched the original episodes for the first time for inspiration. “I honestly had never watched [‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’],” Johnson says.
Johnson said that she "just moved on" from 'Power Rangers' after leaving the show in 1995 and was unaware of about the row fans kicked up later. She appeared in 'Susie Q', 'Perfect Body', 'Felicity', and 'Flashpoint' after 'Power Rangers'.
