Released in 2020, this Portuguese movie is titled originally 'Modo Avião'. And as the name of the movie suggests, 'Airplane Mode' follows the story of an influencer, Ana (Larissa Manoela). Ana is an aspiring fashion designer, who leaves her dream of becoming a social media influencer because of a popular brand. Little did she know that the brand has been using her. In the midst of all this, Ana gets involved in a car crash that prohibits her from using the digital device and is forced to live in her grandfather's farm in a village that makes her rethink her priorities. Though predictable with a weaker plot, 'Airplane Mode' is best for telling the much-needed point in a preachy-less tone, making it a decent watch.

'#REALITYHIGH'

The 2017 high school movie, '#REALITYHIGH', has every element that a proper high school movie must have. A mean girl with an outgoing and popular gang, meets a dorky, good-doer with high grades and no popular social life. The movie centers on how the two extremely polarized people collide to create the final conflict. All the expected tropes of the classic template high school can be seen present here but with one modern-day twist, social media and its influence on the story.

Apart from the more predictable story, the movie puts forth an important point that in the game of being popular and enjoying the infamous lifestyle with the social media influencer, Alexa Medina, the protagonist, Dani Barnes, loses sight of what is more important and real in her life. If you love the template high school movies that give you comfort, then '#REALITYHIGH' would give you a worthy twist.

In this recently released family-friendly ghost movie, we see the story of the Presley family as they move into their new home, which is haunted by the friendly ghost, Earnest. When the younger son, Kevin accidentally films a funny video of Earnest, which the patriarch Frank uploads on the Internet. This makes the starting point of the wildfire, which shows us how a moment becomes viral on every social media platform.

The regular videos of Earnest make the Presleys popular and put Earnest in danger. On one side, a team of government officials try to capture Earnest, while on the other side, on social media, a group of people start a campaign to save Earnest in the most hilarious montage of the movie. Earnest's social media appearance becomes the starting point of 'We Have a Ghost' and this is set to leave the audience wondering what's coming next.

This 2022 masterful movie has so many iconic moments and scenes. From the mind of Rian Johnson, we were able to witness one of the most amazing storytelling in recent times. 'Glass Onion' follows the story of billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), as he uses his friends for his devious plans with the help of his popular friends, who are indebted to Miles in one way or another. One of Miles' friends is Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson), a former supermodel who is a fashion designer now.

Birdie is a perfect example of how not a social media influencer should be. Birdie has an infamous public image, particularly on social media, often owing to the controversial opinions she shares on it. She puts her career often in jeopardy with her remarks on the Internet so much so that her assistant refrains Birdie to post anything. Miles asks Birdie to own to a mistake, which was originally Miles' idea. Therefore, Miles wants to maintain a good public image and uses Birdie's social media to clean up his mess.

If you want to watch a gripping movie about the ugly realities of social media and how a person can be easily manipulated in the fast-paced world full of hate culture and cancel culture, then 'The Hater' is a perfect choice. Released in 2020, the Polish film is originally titled, 'Sala samobójców. Hejter'. 'The Hater' tells the story of Tomasz Giemza, who uses his knowledge of the dark side of social media in order to manipulate others by spreading fake news and all the other smear tactics at hand.

This movie depicts real-life horror in a completely terrifying manner, particularly the 'going viral' moment on social media. The manipulative game that Tomasz plays showcases how we consume the news these days in social media, and acknowledge the "hate culture" without proper thinking. 'The Hater' is a multiple award-winning film, directed by Jan Komasa and written by Mateusz Pacewicz. 'The Hater' will leave one contemplating about the various aspects discussed in the movie.

'Noise' is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on Friday, March 17, 2023.
