SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: All hell broke loose in the K-pop world when it was announced that Blackpink was going to make their debut at the MTV Video Music Awards. With BTS on an indefinite hiatus from group activities and Blackpink, who has had a recent comeback, and both being nominated for the title of 'Group of the Year' at the 2022 VMAs, fans of the boy group were sure that this year, Blackpink could possibly take the win.

Considering that Blackpink was going to attend the show, ARMYs wondered if the girl group would be given an attendance award - one that is given to acts only for their attendance at the award show. This had fans calling out MTV and asking them to be fair with BTS who are truly deserving candidates for the title of 'Group of the Year'. Turns out the title is meant for BTS as the boy group bagged yet another win at the VMAs for the fourth consecutive year.

BTS bags 'Group of the Year' at 2022 VMAs

The 2022 MTV VMAs were held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. When it was revealed that Blackpink will make their US Award show debut with their recent comeback single 'Pink Venom', the girls had all eyes set on them. Moreover, with BTS being on a hiatus following the release of their first anthology album 'Proof', fans wondered if their legacy will end and if the boy group would be stripped of the title of 'Group of the Year' after being absent from the in-person show.

Well, that is not the case as ARMY's dedication worked and the boy group, despite being absent from the show, bagged their fourth consecutive 'Group of the Year' award at the 2022 MTV VMAs. BTS first won the title, then called 'Best Group' in 2019 and 2020. The title was then changed to 'Group of the Year' and BTS recorded another win at the 2021 show. By winning the title at the 2022 show, BTS is now the only group with the most number of wins for the title at the MTV Video Music Awards.

'No one does it like the kings, BTS'

With their latest legendary win, BTS has made their fans even more proud as ARMYs are rejoicing over the grand victory from the boy group. One fan said, "Making history by being the Group of the Year for four consecutive years, no one does it like the Kings, BTS PAVED THE WAY!!!!" Another fan said, "NOW I OFFER YOU GROUP OF THE YEAR."

One more fan asked, "How many times has BTS won Group of the Year at the VMAs?" One fan mocked, "You could say making tweets about group of the year before vmas’ official announcement was a BAD DECISION." Another fan asked, "And how many times has bts won goty?"
