Monsta X's main vocalist to solo debut, fans say 'K in K-pop stands for Kihyun'

Kihyun will be going solo seven years after his group Monsta X debuted

It has been almost seven years since Monsta X debuted and the members are finally branching out with solo projects. Minhyuk has been dabbling as a music show host and radio DJ since 2020 while Shownu and Hyungwon had their acting projects. We also got I.M debuting solo in 2021 while Joohoney aka Jooheon dropped his fourth mixtape. The members are also radio DJs of shows like ‘Idol Radio’ and ‘Midnight Idol’. And on February 18, the main vocalist of Monsta X announced his much-awaited solo debut in the most dramatic way.

The main vocalist of Monsta X, Kihyun is arguably one of the best singers in K-pop. He has often gone viral for his live singing and raw vocals which shocks fans and non-fans often. He even reached local Twitter with his covers of Imagine Dragon’s songs and was acknowledged by the rock band themselves. Fans have gone as far as to dub Kihyun as ‘God of K-pop’ and claim that the ‘K in K-pop stands for Kihyun’.

Kihyun to go solo after six years

Well, on February 18, Monsta X’s label Starship dropped a short video for Kihyun’s ‘official logo’. Fans wondered what the logo was for and tried to guess. Well a few minutes later, Kihyun came online. He shared with Monbebe (Monsta X’s fandom) that it was indeed a logo for his solo debut, “I know you’ve been waiting a lot, and I know you’re looking forward to it.” He added that he was working hard and would also continue to be part of Monsta X. He ended it by saying, “I’ll also make some good music as a soloist.”

Excited fans trended Kihyun and ‘KOLO’ as they made tweets like, “DO YOU KNOW K IN KPOP STANDS FOR KIHYUN????? KIHYUN POP ON ITS WAY.” Another Monbebe posted, “THE GOD OF K-POP WILL HAVE A SOLO!” One excited fan shared, “Cant wait to pull a kihyun pc in my kihyun album that is full of kihyun songs while watching kihyun’s mv.” Another Monbebe wondered about the genre and concept, “OMG WHAT IF WE GET ROCKSTAR KIHYUN NOW?!?!?!?!?!”

One Monbebe said, “Kihyun solo is finally happening i have f**king goosebumps i can already hear guitar riffs and his sexy ass rock voice.” Another proud fan added, “Kihyun has his own logo, he is gonna promote with monsta x AND as a soloist - do you realize how HUGE that is??? there’s probably gonna be physical albums and music show performances! I am so proud of him and so determined to give him all my love and support.” One commented, “NO WAY OMG OP ASKED KIHYUN LAST YEAR WHAT HE’D LIKE TO DO FOR HIS SOLO CONCEPT AND HE CHOSE ROCK CONCEPT WITH RIDER JACKET OUTFIT, A REAL ROCKBAND CONCEPT, AKA KIHYUN RUNAWAY BABY??? IM.”

Another fan joked, “Sse stocks after the release of kihyun’s solo debut news:.” One Monbebe wondered, “Omg what if the Kolo is a alternative rock album. What if we get rocker Kihyun.” Another added, “And when we get this Kihyun for KOLO.” One fan said, “KOLO IS COMING EVERYONE.” Another Monbebe guessed, “KOLO PREDICTIONS [source:trust me bro] IT’S GONNA BE A SOFT ROCK ALBUM(if it’s an album)WITH A SPRINKLE OF RNB AND ONE EMOTIONAL SONG.” One posted, "GOD IS REAL.
