While K-pop groups have all-rounders, we have some idols who are vocal powerhouses. Hence these idols are known as the main vocalists of their groups as they can sing circles around anyone. Very few come to mind, like NCT's Taeil, GOT7’s Youngjae, Seventeen’s Woozi among others. And Monsta X’s Kihyun happens to be one of them. The singer has often gone viral for his singing live impromptu and without any MR (recorded music) and has also been acknowledged by the likes of Imagine Dragons for his song covers.

However, in the last few days, a TikTok of Kihyun surfaced that claimed that the Monsta X vocalist was singing off-key at KBS Gayo Daechukje which took place on December 17. Organized by the channel KBS, it is a year-end annual music festival where major K-pop artists get together to perform and end the year with a bang. For the 2021 edition, we had the likes of Red Velvet, Stray Kids, Sunmi and NCT U performing. We even got special stages and collabs by the likes of TXT and Enhypen.

Monsta X in the US

And while Kihyun was being trolled for performing terribly, he has been in the US for the last few weeks touring with iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball. Monsta X has given us some outstanding performances at these year-end music festivals held in Seoul, South Korea, but this year they are not in any of the lineups because they are not in the country. Having released their second English album, ‘The Dreaming’ along with their first-ever movie, they are having a press junket in USA where they were also roped in by iHeartRadio for their festive tour.

This is the third time that Monsta X has performed at the Jingle Ball, having been invited since 2018. And so fans found it ridiculous that a TikToker was accusing Kihyun for being off-key at a performance he didn't even attend. Kihyun and the remaining members of Monsta X were in Atlanta on the day the KBS Gayo Daechukje was held in Seoul. But with antis taking the opportunity to troll and blow up the TikTok video, fans have taken it upon themselves to prove the haters wrong.

'Half way around the world rn'

Fans posted clips of Kihyun singing live effortlessly as they found it unbelievable that he would sing off-key. One Monbebe shared, “Not at yall thinking Yoo Kihyun the God of kpop was off key??? at a show to Monsta X didn't even attend ?? it's pathetic. He eats CDs just like all of the members.” Another shared, “Kpop stans on tiktok saying that it's Yoo Kihyun from Monsta X who messed up whole KBS Gayo Daechukjae song and was singing off key Kihyun being in US Jingle Ball during KBS Gayo killing his part with high note live: You are coming for wrong man.”

One brought back last year’s KBS event where he did sing, “Since kbs gayo daechukjae 2021 is today, it’s time to bring back kihyun’s legendary high note that shocked other idols.” Another found it hilarious that antis were targeting Kihyun who was not even in the country, “I saw a TikTok  a couple hrs ago where someone sang out of tune in this years kbs and people were saying it was Kihyun. Like if that man ain’t half way around the world rn.”
