Meghan Markle may have broken royal protocol again by speaking about 'Time's Up'
Meghan Markle talks in support of the Time's up movement and the Me Too movement.
Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced their wedding, every public appearance of the actress happens to a breach in the royal protocols which are laid and looks like she has done it again. Recently, Prince Harry, Meghan, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended 'The Royal Foundation'. While the royals stay away from making any political statement, Meghan did not shy away from talking about the Time's up and Me Too movement.
"I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment—you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices," Meghan said to the panel's moderator. "I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen."
Rather than not talking about the rising topic such as assault and gender roles, Meghan chose to put forward her thoughts. When one thinks about it, it is not surprising that she would have some strong opinions related to the movements as Meghan, too, was once part of Hollywood. She continued her speech by expressing strong support for the idea of making a change happen.
"Right now with so many campaigns like MeToo and Time’s Up there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them," she said. Typically, a royal family refrains themselves from talking about any political issues, especially if it is something as big as these two moments.
For instance, during the Golden Globes Awards, Kate Middleton might have given a subtle nod to the Me Too movement by wearing a black sash around her waist along with her green waist gown by Jenny Packham. While Kate decided to not openly talk about it, Meghan seems to have very different views. However, Meghan did not spill out any details on the projects she would be taking on. When asked, she said, "Sadly, I can’t. But it’s to be continued."
In fact, Meghan also added that as of now, she was completely focusing on her marriage and won't be taking on any projects until the couple says their wedding vows. "Yeah, I guess we wait a couple of months and then we can hit the ground running," she said. "We can hold tight until that’s done." Meghan and Prince Harry are said to get married on May 19.
