Things were bound to go downhill and get messy ever since the prison breakout in 'Mayor of Kingstown'. There's nothing scarier than an entire mob of men who fear no one and have nothing to lose.

Easily the most powerful episode of the entire series, the season finale of 'Mayor of Kingstown' showcases fear, vulnerability and trauma in its most real and raw form. Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky is easily the star highlight of the series with Emma Laird as Iris, Hugh Dillon as Ian Ferguson and Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky playing important side characters.

'Mayor of Kingstown' Episode 9: Iris asks a favor of Mike and cries her heart out

'Mayor of Kingstown' Episode 9 Fan Review: Prison break makes viewers 'shake with tension'

Post the prison breakout, the inmates are officially fed up with having to put up with the way they're being treated while at the prison. They slyly lure in officers and kill them all, one at a time, thereby standing firm and strong while sending across a message. Since Mike used to once be behind bars himself, the inmates are comparatively alright confiding in him as they think low of every other officer there is. Almost fearlessly, Mike walks into what will soon be a traumatic and bloody shooting range, with blood being shed on both sides.

Their demands are simple. The inmates just want to be treated like humans and be given decent food. Some of them are sure to be breathing their last within their cells, so the least the higher-ups can do is not make their experience a lot tougher than it already is. This scene is almost impossible to believe but is the hard reality of what goes on behind closed doors. One of the inmates even mentioned that the letters he wrote for his daughter were used as toilet paper by the officers and then given back to him.

Unfortunately, things take a different turn when one of the people from the SWAT team fires their guns, after which, there's no looking back. Mike takes cover but almost all of the inmates are shot dead. It's heartbreaking to sit through this scene in particular, really makes you wonder what we're all striving for in the long run. All said and done, Mike is reunited with his kid brother, Kyle, and colleague, Ian, after the two were the last two who survived the big-blown fight with the inmates.

The last leg of the episode shows a petrified Iris, who is still only beginning to learn how to heal from all that life has thrown at her. When Mike finds her on the floor with a knife, she says that so much of her has been cut off (metaphorically speaking) and that she feels she has to now grow and start from square one.

What's next for Iris and Mike, in their respective lives? Will Kyle be like the person he once was before the prison firing? Looks like we'll have to wait and watch.

Let's hope to see a Season 2 soon. Stay tuned for updates.
