Just wanting to change isn't enough for the people featured on 'My 600-lb Life'. One has to be ready to put in the time, effort and stay committed to their goals. Seeing that their food addictions often stem from past traumas, these people tend to fall back into old patterns and struggle to break away from it.

However, Lucas Higdon proved that nothing is impossible with hard work and determination. When he first met Dr Now, Lucas weighed 619 lb. And while his journey was not easy, Lucas was determined to stay honest and on track. His perseverance paid off, seeing that he finally got approved to get surgery.

Lucas managed to get down to 550lb before his surgery, and Dr Now was glad for his progress. Initially, Dr Now was worried that Lucas' family dynamics would cause an issue, seeing that Lucas being homebound was beneficial to them, as he took care of his sister kids and was their homeschool teacher. However, Lucas took matters into his own hands and even began going to the gym while on his diet. The surgery was long, seeing that Dr Now wanted to fix Lucas' hernia and give him a gastric sleeve. The surgery was a success, putting Lucas on a quick road to recovery. By month 10, Lucas had achieved things he had only been dreaming about a year ago -- he was closer to entering the 300 lb range, he got a job in a field he liked and was exploring community colleges. The episode ended on a rather wholesome note, with Lucas claiming that there was so much more he wanted to do, such as have a family of his own and even travel abroad to places like South Korea. Fans were thrilled to see how far Lucas had come.

"Lucas and his family gave us the #my600lblife episode we needed. Seeing him walk into class holding that black and white marble notebook was too sweet." tweeted a fan. "Lucas, everyone makes mistakes, but you're doing the right thing and getting back up and continuing to work hard. Allow yourself some grace. #my600lblife" added another. "I'm so excited for Lucas. Going back to school and working out. He will reach his weight loss goal in no time #my600lblife" tweeted a fan. "After a season of disappointments we were rewarded with a success story to end 2021! Way to go Lucas! Happy new year y'all!  #my600lblife" noted another. "The episodes with drama are fun but I missed these inspirational stories with happy endings. Way to go Lucas!!#my600lblife" added a fan.

"Oh man today has been interesting, and it reminds me that I really do neglect my page a lot. Really I only use FB for messenger but I guess it’s time to use it more and try to ignore the stuff that irks me.
My weight loss journey has been a wild ride and honestly, I couldn’t have gotten this far without the help and support of my friends and family. The journey is still going and still have a ways to go.
I hope everyone is doing well this holiday, and happy new year to you all." he wrote.

'My 600-lb Life' airs every Wednesday at 8/7c on TLC.
