For the people featured on 'My 600-lb Life', there are a lot of personal factors and trauma that result in them gaining so much weight. However, their appearance on the show is often a sign that they are ready for change. But not everyone has the willpower to go through with the changes that need to be made.

When it comes to approving patients for weight loss surgery, Dr Now certainly doesn't play around. If he doesn't see progress, there is no hope of getting the surgery. For Dr Now, commitment towards wanting a better life is vital. And it looks like Lucas Higdon is more determined than ever.

Where is Lacey Buckingham? A look at 'My 600-lb Life' star's weightloss, relationship

For 33-year-old Lucas Higdon, he recognises that the biggest issue that has led to his weight gain is his surroundings. While talking about his past, Lucas noted that he has both anxiety and depression. However, as a child, he was known to be a hyper one, with his mother Sheryl even admitting that they had to put high locks on the door because at age 3, he left the house, and they found him on a highway.

Lucas, too admitted his childhood was hard, seeing that he was one of six siblings, all of whom had a different combination of parents. When his younger twin sisters were born, the family's focus shifted from a then four-year-old Lucas to the twins, resulting in his eating habits. His parents, Sheryl and Glenn's on again off again marriage, were also an added source of stress. Even his school was neglected and disliked by teachers due to his hyperactive behaviour.

When he was in High School, he weighed 300lb. However, he began playing football, which was a pivotal change in his life, as he went from 375 lb to 300 lb, and then in his junior year, he dropped to 245 lb. But when football season ended, he put the weight back on and graduated at 325 lb. He worked a pizza delivery job in college, where he got free pizza, leading to bad eating habits. In addition to that, his father had him drop out of college to learn a trade, something that Lucas was not keen on.

This eventually contributed to his anxiety and depression, causing him to turn to food even more so than ever. Currently, Lucas's only income source is babysitting his sister's Maegen's children and homeschooling them. However, he dreams of moving out of his family's living complex and wants to be an IT technician. Determined more than ever, Lucas seems to be all in when it comes to his weight loss.

'My 600-lb Life' airs every Wednesday at 8/7c on TLC.
