‘Love Island’- the American version of the hit British series is all set to get a new home. The reality show that sees a bunch of hot single men and gorgeous women live together under one roof while performing various challenges has been picked by Peacock for the next two seasons. The fans have time and again showered their love and admiration for the first three seasons on CBS, but the next two will be aired on the NBC Universal-owned streaming platform.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Love Island’s new season will be hit the streaming platform this summer. It has been reported that apparently, CBS required a new format of the show but the network could not commit to the same number of episodes for its summer schedule. The producers of the reality show then pulled out from the network. The show then ultimately landed in NBC’s kitty. According to reports, it is not confirmed whether host Arielle Vandenberg and narrator Matt Hoffman will return for the fourth season. However, Paramount has promised that “multiple episodes” will debut “weekly in real time”.

Why did 'Love Island' move from CBS to Peacock?

While CBS could not commit to the same summer schedule, it is also being reported that ‘Love Island’ was always a tricky show for CBS. The first season performed moderately whereas, the second one got postponed due to the unfortunate global pandemic. The third season was then moved from Fiji to Las Vegas. Somehow, the USA version could not never replicate the success of the British version.

A few sources spilled the beans to The Hollywood Reporter that CBS apparently wanted to scale back on the number of episodes. ITV then put the show out for bidding as Peacock picked it up promising the producers their expected summer schedule. Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said, “As we continue to make Peacock a destination for must-watch original programming, partnering with a global powerhouse like ITV enables us to build on their internationally beloved formats to attract all new fans to the platform.”

Speaking on the new deal, ITV America CEO David George, said, “This really is an unprecedented deal for an unscripted brand. Peacock and NBCU are the perfect home for Love Island because of their strategy to grow the show, utilizing the greater NBCU television portfolio and other platforms to help propel the series. That dedication, coupled with a two-season commitment on Peacock, sealed the deal. We’re incredibly excited to elevate the show through a bold new collaboration.”

Will ‘Love Island’ air with new format?

‘Love Island’ will reportedly stick to the same format as shown in the previous seasons. Multiple episodes will be aired per week where matchmaking between the singles will take place in a stunning villa while performing various tasks and challenges. CBS earlier described the show as, “A sizzling summer series based on the international smash hit and cultural phenomenon. The matchmaking begins as a group of single “Islanders” come together in a stunning villa in Las Vegas, ready to embark on a summer of dating, romance, and ultimately, relationships. Every few days the Islanders pair up and those who are not coupled are at risk of being dumped from the island. Islanders are on the lookout for romance, but the road to love doesn’t always run smoothly.”

Jenny Groom, executive VP entertainment unscripted content and NBC TV and Streaming, spoke about the format, as per The Hollywood Reporter, “Love Island is a highly addictive dating format that is primed for a streaming service like Peacock where we can push boundaries and bring viewers steamy and dramatic twists”, adding, “The series took pop culture by storm after the UK format found fans across the world, and we are thrilled to be able to bring an all-new version to Peacock this summer anchoring our unscripted slate.”

‘Why would they ruin this show for me like that’

Fans took to Twitter to react to the news as one of them stated, “WTF I mean I wasn’t watching episode to episode, but at least could act like I was, now I got nothing.” Another claimed, “It will be better on peacock.”  Whereas, one added, “At least we get two more seasons.” The next one posted, “So #LoveIsland moved to @peacockTV? maybe @CBS will put better stuff on. doubtful.” And, another concluded, “Why would they ruin this show for me like that?? No one asked them to move it to f*n peacock.”
