'Love & Hip Hop: New York' star Remy Ma calls son Jayson 'Jace' Scott 'innocent' after arrest over 2021 murder
BRONX, NEW YORK CITY: Remy Ma's eldest child, Jayson "Jace" Scott, and another guy are suspected of first-degree murder; they are now in police custody.
The 'Love & Hip Hop: New York' star has responded to her son's arrest, telling TMZ, "We stand by Jayson's innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me.
While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove Jayson's innocence."
Remy's son is represented by attorney Dawn Florio, and Remy says, via the law office, "As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything -- as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case."
Remy Ma's previous relationship had a child named Jace. He was born on August 13, 2000, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York.
Jace was only seven years old when Remy went to prison, but he maintained contact with his mother and visited her frequently. He did, however, escort her down the aisle at her second marriage to rapper Papoose.
Jace even danced with his mother throughout the reception. Remy shared Instagram photographs of herself and Jace on November 17, 2018, lovingly referring to her firstborn baby as "Punkin".
Jace prefers to keep out of the public eye, yet he has been featured on numerous of his mother's TV shows, such as 'Love & Hip Hop: New York', 'Remy & Papoose: A Merry Mackie Holiday', and 'Remy & Papoose: Meet the Mackies'.
During his time on reality TV, Jace was shown starting a rap career under the name Jay Janafi. It's unknown how close he is to his mother, as he hasn't been on her social media pages in years.
Why was Remy Ma's son arrested?
Jace was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment after allegedly killing 47-year-old Darius Guillebeaux during a June 7 altercation. He was accused alongside 22-year-old Richard Swygert, who also faces a murder accusation.
Darius was discovered with several gunshot wounds to his head and torso on June 7, 2021, shortly before 1 pm. According to the NYPD, he was transferred to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and later declared dead.
The victim had already been indicted by the New York Attorney General as part of a large narcotics ring. The investigation, known as 'Operation Heat Wave', resulted in 54 arrests for allegedly trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone in upstate New York.
An arraignment is scheduled for June 19 in Queens County Court.

She was freed from jail in 2014, having served six years. To mark the occasion, she released Remy on the Rocks, a collection of tunes from various mixtapes.
