Spoilers for 'Landscapers' Episode 3

HBO's 'Landscapers' has been slowly and dramatically unfolding the true-crime Mansfield murders of 1988. Susan and Christopher Edwards were the English couple who kept the secrets of Susan's parents being dead for more than a decade until they were found out.

The second episode of 'Landscapers' saw the couple in questioning as the police try and wrangle details out of them. Christopher (David Thewlis) is calm and collected but information on his part causes Susan (Olivia Colman) to slip up and her perky behavior is lost to stress as she wonders why isn't Chris sticking to the plan. The episode ends with the police finding out that it was the husband who came up with the plan of burying the bodies in the garden and did the deed for his wife himself. Which one of the two killed them remains a mystery but some light was shed in the third episode of 'Landscapers' so read on to know more about it.

'Landscapers' Episode 2: Fans praise 'genius, unique and imaginative' storytelling

The third episode of the mini-series saw Chris and Susan being questioned separately. The path of the bullets and the style of killing indicated that it was one person who shot both of them rather than just one of them with DC Emma Lancing(Kate O'Flynn) and  DC Paul Wilkie(Samuel Anderson) implying that they also suspect that Chris as there with Susan than weekend opposed to what he says. They also add that he had a bit of a savior complex in reference to always calling Susan 'fragile' and was pissed when she handed over some property to her parents with whom they had a bad relationship. Chris denies this saying all he did was love her. But when they assume that she was the one who fired the shots, the husband angrily yells that she couldn't have killed her parents since she's terrified of guns.

Chris says he knows what this looks like but he has to stand up for his wife. He says he knows about her fear since he used to belong to a gun club and even owned two pistols himself. He continues that she was petrified at the gun range and couldn't even hold a gun and that she couldn't kill two people with the firearm. He reiterates it is impossible that she used a gun. This revelation makes it very obvious who's more likely to have done the deed. Chris basically incriminated himself and next, it was the wife's turn to know about it.

When Susan is brought in for questioning DC Lancing and DC Wilkie reveals what Chris told them. A clearly stunned Susan says it's all a misunderstanding telling that they got rid of the guns. Realizing what Chris has done she loses her composure and begs them to believe her. The police carry on their work and tell her that instead of manslaughter they'll be tried for murder with her as the accomplice. Susan weeps hysterically saying Chris will go to prison and lashes out at her lawyer.

This is how the third episode unfolded with the couple scheduled to meet in court for the first time since they were arrested in the next episode.

'Landscapers' airs every Monday at 9 pm ET and is available to stream on HBO MAX as well.
