JYP only credits Stray Kids, Wonder Girls on Billboard, fans say 'TWICE paved the way'

JYP states that Wonder Girls paved the way for their company but TWICE fans disagree

While fans were celebrating Stray Kids’ achievement of getting their first #1 on Billboard 200, it looks like their CEO, JYP aka Park Jinyoung has landed himself in hot water. JYP, the founder of JYP Entertainment, shared a screenshot of Wonder Girls entering Billboard Hot 100 and Stray Kids on Billboard 200 talking about their achievements and congratulating the boy group. He also spoke about Wonder Girls’ hardships and how it opened doors for other Korean artists.

In the caption, JYP adds, “Thank you Wondergirls and Wonderful for opening the door and paving the way.” And while Wonder Girls was indeed the first Korean act to ever chart on Billboard, JYPE has also been home to several other popular and successful idol groups like 2PM, miss A, GOT7 and TWICE. And with TWICE continuing to break records including on Billboard while they are under JYPE, their fans were quite indignant that JYP only credited Stray Kids and Wonder Girls.

TWICE fans recount their achievements

In fact, just a couple of days ago, TWICE became the first girl group to earn $2 million for one US concert. Fans have taken it upon themselves to remind JYP of the achievements of TWICE. A ONCE tweeted, “Thank you JYP, you just made it clear that Twice is only  has once. If you don't recognize Twice's achievements, we will.” Another fan brought back a clip, “You could tell from this point forward jyp has done everything in his power to try and sabotage twice. mf was embarrassed that a girl group was the face of his company and his ego is too big to let that continue.”

'They really discredited TWICE's success'

Another ONCE shared, “That man crediting WG for paving the way for JYPE artists in the US when the reason why RR signed other JYPE groups was all thanks to TWICE's success in the first place. Even Roppo, co-president of RR, credited my girls.” One fan used the iconic Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscar slap to create a meme, “Oh new meme?.” Another was blunt as they listed all of TWICE’s Billboard achievements, “TWICE really scares you, and you are scared to accept the fact that FEMALE ARTISTS are the face of that company, you know very damn well that TWICE's success made your whole company grow and its because of them that 'JYPE' still exists.”

One brought receipts of all the time Billboard credited TWICE’s success, “TWICE LITERALLY REVIVED THE HALLYU WAVE IN JAPAN and paving the way for jype artists in Japan and even billboard dot com said that twice's success in US made the other jype groups have their US label as well. they really discredited twice success, this company is so sick.” Another clarified that they were not angry at Stray Kids or Wonder Girls, “And i hate that people are gonna take this as onces are mad that another group took an achievement or blah blah wtv. the point of outrage isn’t someone else’s success. it’s the ignorance of a clear and thoroughly stated fact that a group of 9 women are the reason for jype success.”

'TWICE deserves better'

One brought back the time Sunmi had said TWICE paid for JYPE’s new building, “Twice deserves better, even their own producer cant appreciate twice's achievements, even sunmi of wg have said that twice paved the way for other artist under that shitty company.” Another mentioned how Wonder Girls’ charting did not help TWICE, “Nope, WG didn't paved the way, at least not for Twice, they started from the bottom, they did pave the way for JYPE artist.” A ONCE said, “There is a 12 year gap between TWICE on the hot100 and WG on the hot100. JYP US was deactivated for 10 years ago. TWICE was the one that signed with RR, the one who entered the hot100 last october. The return of jype to the US market 12 years later was thanks to them.”
