'Jewish Matchmaking' fans tell Ori Basly to 'grow a pair' for dating only blonde, blue-eyed beauties

Despite Aleeza's efforts to find him a suitable match, Ori has been a tough nut to crack, thanks to his 'beauty standards'

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL: Are dating apps failing you? Meet Ori Basly, a 30-year-old graphic designer from Los Angeles who, after trying his luck on Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, and JSwipe, has come to believe that dating app algorithms are simply not in his favor. Ori’s picky nature when it comes to a woman’s physical appearance doesn’t help either. “I only date beautiful women,” he reiterated. Ori lives and works with his mother, Tal Orion, an event planner specializing in weddings who he considers the “No. 1 woman” in his life.

Enter Aleeza Ben Shalom, the matchmaker and dating coach on 'Jewish Matchmaking' Season 1, tasked with finding Ori a potential wife. Ori has a clear idea of what he’s looking for -- a family-oriented, preferably Israeli woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and who speaks Hebrew. He’s also a self-described pork-lover, hoping to find a partner who is at least okay with him eating bacon. Aleeza definitely has her work cut out for her in Ori’s quest for love.

Ori says, 'I only date beautiful women'

Ori has made it abundantly clear that he only wants to date a "beautiful woman." This has been reiterated time and time again to Aleeza. Despite Aleeza's efforts to find him a suitable match, Ori has been a tough nut to crack. However, Aleeza's first match for Ori was Adi, a dark-haired actor who had recently relocated to Los Angeles from Israel. At first, Ori seemed to be interested in Adi, even going so far as to express his desire to sleep with her to producers. But as they spent more time together, it became clear that there wasn't much of a spark between them. After an awkward horseback riding date, they both agreed that there wasn't much of a connection between them. Ori, being honest to a fault, even referred to Adi as "simple," a remark that effectively ended their brief courtship.

Undeterred, Aleeza decided to change tactics and find Ori a date that met his "non-negotiable" requirement of having blue eyes. Enter Karin, a 25-year-old attorney with blonde hair, blue eyes, and the ability to speak Hebrew. Ori and Karin hit it off right from the start, both feeling an instant chemistry between them. Ori couldn't stop gushing about how beautiful she was, exclaiming "I feel very good about this date. I hope she does, too." This was Ori's last appearance of the season, but he remained hopeful for the future. Despite Ori's insistence on only dating a "beautiful woman," it's clear that he's not just looking for physical beauty. He's searching for someone who meets his specific requirements and who he feels a genuine connection with. It remains to be seen whether Aleeza will be able to find someone who fits the bill, but one thing is for sure: Ori won't settle for anything less than what he's looking for.

'Personality of a plank'

The fans of 'Jewish Matchmaking' were not impressed with Ori's criteria for a potential partner. Many took to social media to express their frustration with the graphic designer from Los Angeles. One tweet read, "This guy Ori from Jewish matchmaking who still lives with his parents and starts talking about 3 kids and 3 dogs like.. brother you don’t even pick after yourself… lol wtf." Another said, "Ori from Jewish matchmaking... grow a pair pleaseeeee." It's clear that many viewers found Ori's expectations unrealistic, especially given his living situation. One user even said, "Aleeza’s showing Ori literal goddesses and he’s swiping left. If nothing else, he’s got a surplus of audacity. I’m glad she called him out on actually bringing something to the table. #JewishMatchmaking" 

On Reddit, the criticism was even harsher. One commenter wrote, "I can't believe he called her simple then tried to clean it up. He was totally gaslighting her and he considers himself complicated; sure. He was an asshole." Others accused Ori of being a "sexual predator" and suggested that he was only interested in physical relationships with women. Many viewers also commented on Ori's close relationship with his mother, who he referred to as the "No. 1 woman" in his life. One commenter wrote, "So typical of momma boys. They look to women for the physical outlet, but momma takes care of them otherwise so they have zero depth when it comes to a relationship with women."
