Jeon Somi 'XOXO': Release date, music video and about the K-pop star's first album

Somi continues the storyline from 'Dumb Dumb' of the 'it girl' scorned

K-pop soloist Somi, who now goes by Jeon Somi, is finally set to release her first studio album 'XOXO'. The idol had previously made a name for herself by ranking #1 on ‘Produce 101’ and debuting with the popular project group I.O.I while she was under YMC Entertainment. She made her solo debut in 2019 under YG Entertainment’s label The Black Label. And while she’s had a successful solo career, she had only released singles to date. Fans have been eagerly waiting for her to make a comeback with an album.

She last had her comeback with ‘Dumb Dumb’ that charted high on Gaon, iTunes and even Billboard. It marked her first comeback after more than a year. And just two months later, Somi is ready to drop her first solo album ever. To hype it up, fans have already helped ‘XOXO’ cross 20,000 pre-order sales in just five days after it was announced. The label is going all out for it as they are releasing three versions of the album.

Jeon Somi’s first studio album ‘XOXO’ will be released on October 29 at 6 pm KST (5 am ET).

The album has four new songs with ‘XOXO’ as the title track. Somi has participated in the making of the album as a songwriter, as well as a producer. We even have the likes of Pink Sweat$ and her CEO Teddy working on the album. The rest of the tracks are pre-released singles that Somi made a comeback with after signing with her latest agency, The Black Label. She had her solo debut with ‘Birthday’ and ‘Outta My Head’ in 2019. She got her first music show win with ‘What You Waiting For’. Her last comeback was with ‘Dumb Dumb’ in August 2021.

Concept

Somi has continued the concept of the ‘it girl’ from ‘Dumb Dumb’ but this time she is going for a more punk rock image as she dons neon outfits, dark makeup and space buns.

Music video teaser

From the music video teaser, it looks like Somi is also continuing the storyline of ‘Dumb Dumb’. But she has turned into the popular high school girl who has been scorned and is out for revenge. Gone are her days dancing and having fun at prom as she breaks a car and is seen having a car race in a deserted area surrounded by rock and hip-hop sounds in the arrangement.

Fans have been trending Somi as she released the music video teaser with tweets like, “The last time somi went high kicking nomu nomu nomu went viral XOXO IS GONNA BE A HIT,” “"BADDIES" yes somi tell em,” and “THE GIRL IS BACK FOR THE SWEET REVENGE.” Another added, “OKAY HEAR ME OUT, JEON SOMI'S XOXO IS A FREAKING BOP.”
