Jenny Han's 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' renewed for second season BEFORE June 17 premiere of Season 1
'The Summer I turned Pretty' — based on the novel of the same name by Jenny Han — is a coming-of-age romantic drama that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The first novel in the 'Summer' series by Han was originally published in 2009. The sequels, 'It’s Not Summer Without You' and 'We’ll Always Have Summer', followed in 2010 and 2011 respectively. 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' was picked up to stream at Amazon in February 2021. Season 1 of the show is set to debut on June 17 and will consist of seven episodes.
However, ans will be excited to learn that 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' has been renewed for Season 2 before Season 1 has even premiered. “When I decided to adapt ‘Summer’ for television, I knew we’d need more than one season to honor the story we are telling,” said Han exclusively to 'Variety'. “To receive a second season pickup ahead of the premiere of Season One is beyond my wildest dreams. I am so grateful to Amazon Studios for this amazing vote of confidence in our show, and cannot wait to bring our incredible team back together to tell the next chapter in our story.” The Amazon series marks Han's first television writing credit.

The release date for Season 2 is not confirmed, but fans should probably plan to wait at least a year, considering the announcement has come even before the premiere of Season 1. The plot of second season is also not clear, but there is a possibility the new season will focus on the content of the second book in Han’s series: 'It’s Not Summer Without You'. This more mature and intense novel follows Belly and Jeremiah trying to find Conrad at Cousins Beach after he goes missing.
Han’s second book features practically all the same characters as the first, so it can be expected that the cast of Season 1 will return. Season 2 will be led by showrunners Han and Sarah Kucserka. They will also serve as executive producers, along with Rosenfelt and Stanton and wiip’s Hartman, Hansen and Lee.
The debut season of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' will premiere on June 17. The multigenerational drama hinges on a love triangle among one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children and the enduring power of strong female friendship. It is a coming-of-age story about first love, first heartbreak and the magic of that one perfect summer.
