Sherlock Holmes will return for another major investigation. Guy Ritchie's TV series 'Young Sherlock' on the iconic detective was renewed for Season 2 at Prime Video. In what comes as a no-brainer, the Amazon-owned streamer greenlit the show for a second instalment. Season 1 premiered as a binge release on March 4, and continues to be one of the most watched shown on the platform. At the time of writing, there is no official word on the production of Season 2, the plot, or its release date. Starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a teenage Sherlock Holmes, the series included an immensely talented cast in Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Max Irons, Dónal Finn, and Colin Firth.

Created by Ritchie, the behind-the-scenes personnel included EPs Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Matthew Parkhill, Simon Maxwell, Colin Wilson, Ivan Atkinson, and Simon Kelton, along with showrunner Matthew Parkhill. Per THR, Ritchie, who directed the first two episodes of the debut season, is set to direct the season two premiere as well. Season 1 focused on Holmes' formative years as a 19-year-old at Oxford University. Far removed from the master detective he eventually becomes, the series focused on showing a new side of the character as he investigates his first murder mystery.

"Young Sherlock has that rare magic — millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, in the official statement. "Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in season two."

In related news, Prime Video added that 'Young Sherlock' saw 45 million people view the series in its first four weeks of release. It remained on the streamer's top 10 for any season of an original series on the streamer. A major 63% of the views were from outside of the United States. The report added that the series logged 678 million minutes of viewing in its premiere week. Ritchie's latest came after the 2009 movie 'Sherlock Holmes' starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. A sequel, 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows', followed in 2011. Both movies were critical and commercial successes. Only time will tell if Season 2 can see the same amount of success.
