'Young Sherlock' drops major update featuring 'After' star as legendary detective
Prime Video gave fans the first look at the new Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie's 'Young Sherlock'. The British mystery series is the latest adaptation of the iconic detective based on the pages of Andrew Lane's book series, 'Young Sherlock Holmes'. The images see 'After' star Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Sherlock Holmes. Ritchie sits as an executive producer, and the first look at his new series shows Tiffin as a student from Oxford.
The storyline of 'Young Sherlock' sees the title character forced to work on a murder case that threatens to put his Oxford run in danger. At the time of writing, there isn't a lot to say about the plot. The description of the show suggests the murder he looks to solve opens up something large.
According to Deadline, "Inspired by Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock” book series and told in Ritchie’s unmistakable cinematic style, the forthcoming show will share the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective. It promises a youthful and unfiltered Holmes navigating his first-ever murder mystery case in a globe-trotting adventure."
Earlier, Tiffin spoke about his role as the titular character. "Because I’ve grown up loving Sherlock, so I appreciate it if anyone does another one, I’ll watch it, and I’ll be the kind of person that goes, "I think Sherlock might have been a bit different," he told Collider. "So, I understood the pressure because I’d be on the other side too if it were someone else playing the role."
"There were those nerves, but it was excitement too, and an honor and privilege to play the character," he added. "But you’re right. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I felt some sort of responsibility. I felt like there was a mark to hit. You can’t just say it’s a completely fabricated character. He is how he is. People are going to have an idea of an expectation they have. And I don’t think there’s a better man for the job than Guy. I just trusted him so much. It was a pleasure. I’m really, really excited for people to see what we’ve done."
The cast also includes Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Max Irons, and Colin Firth. They can be seen in character in the new photos. Meanwhile, the behind-the-lens names alongside Ritchie include showrunner Matthew Parkhill, Dhana Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson. Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson serve as co-executive producers.
'Young Sherlock' premieres on Prime Video in 2026.
