Explosive 'Young Sherlock' trailer thrusts a cheeky Holmes in gripping, globe-trotting conspiracy
After giving fans a glimpse of 'Young Sherlock' earlier this year, Prime Video dropped a full trailer of Guy Ritchie's new mystery series on the legendary detective. The show tracing the sleuth's formative years releases March 4, 2026.
According to an official logline, the series follows "the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character’s early days. Sherlock Holmes is a disgraced young man – raw and unfiltered – when he finds himself wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his liberty. His first-ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life forever. Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident."
The eight-episode series stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as the titular investigator. The rest of the cast includes Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Max Irons, and Colin Firth. Meanwhile, the behind-the-lens names alongside Ritchie include showrunner Matthew Parkhill, Dhana Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson. Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson serve as co-executive producers.
In related news, Tiffin spoke about his role as Holmes. "Because I’ve grown up loving Sherlock, so I appreciate it if anyone does another one, I’ll watch it, and I’ll be the kind of person that goes, 'I think Sherlock might have been a bit different,'" he told Collider. "So, I understood the pressure because I’d be on the other side too if it were someone else playing the role."
"There were those nerves, but it was excitement too, and an honor and privilege to play the character," he added. "But you’re right. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I felt some sort of responsibility. I felt like there was a mark to hit. You can’t just say it’s a completely fabricated character. He is how he is. People are going to have an idea of an expectation they have. And I don’t think there’s a better man for the job than Guy. I just trusted him so much. It was a pleasure. I’m really, really excited for people to see what we’ve done."
The show marks the latest from Ritchie after he previously released 'Sherlock Holmes' in 2009, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. This was followed by a sequel, 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' in 2011. All eight episodes of 'Young Sherlock' drop on March 4, 2026.
