'Widow's Bay' heads to special screening at AMC theaters in a first for Apple TV+
Apple TV+ is giving 'Widow's Bay' a theatrical showcase in a first for the streaming service. The breakout horror comedy will receive special fan screenings at select AMC theaters, marking the first time an Apple TV+ series has been given a theatrical event of this kind. The one-night-only screenings will take place on August 12 in partnership with Rutgers University, where series creator Katie Dippold is an alumna.
According to an exclusive by Deadline, fans will get to watch the final three episodes of Season 1 at AMC theaters in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. The screenings will be free of charge, and information on how to attend will be available on the event registration page.
Presented in collaboration with Rutgers University Foundation, the screenings will celebrate the creator and executive producer, Dippold. Matt Cherniss, Apple's head of programming, said the screenings will give fans a chance to experience the season's closing episodes together. He praised Dippold for the world he built, one with characters, humor, and twists that surprise the viewers.
‘Widow’s Bay’ is set to be a surprise hit in 2026. The series earned 19 Emmy nominations, the highest total for any freshman show this year. Its nominations include Outstanding Comedy Series, acting nods for Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Root, and Dale Dickey, along with writing and directing recognition for Katie Dippold and Hiro Murai.
The theatrical event places 'Widow's Bay' alongside a small group of streaming series that have held fan screenings in cinemas. Previous titles include 'Game of Thrones,' 'Stranger Things,' 'One Piece,' and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.' The series follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, as he tries to revive his isolated island town by attracting tourists. His schemes come undone as age-old supernatural tales begin to manifest, revealing the dark truth of the mysteries lurking beneath the island's surface.
