James Gunn drops 'Supergirl' teaser before full trailer, and Milly Alcock's Kara takes a surprising turn
James Gunn just teased 'Supergirl' fans with some exclusive footage from the long-awaited upcoming superhero film. On December 7, Gunn, well-known for his remarkable work on the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise, took to his Instagram page and shared a sneak peek of the highly anticipated film. The clip showed 'House of the Dragon' star Milly Alcock as Kara Zoe-El. In addition to this, Gunn also revealed the release date of the teaser trailer of 'Supergirl' in the caption of his Instagram post: "Teaser trailer this week. #Supergirl."
According to a report by Screen Rant, the upcoming 'Supergirl' movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely's popular 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' comic series. Craig Gillespie has directed the film, with a script by Ana Nogueira. In the new movie, Supergirl will be travelling across the galaxy on a murderous quest for revenge. Along with Alcott, the film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Supergirl's father, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Supergirl's mother.
'Aquaman' star Jason Momoa, too, has a cameo in the upcoming 'Supergirl' film. Momoa will be seen essaying the character of Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the utopian planet Czarnia. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Momoa candidly spoke about his Lobo debut, saying, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike's really cool."
While appearing on an episode of 'The Howard Stern Show', Gunn spilled the beans on casting Alcock as Kara Zoe-El. "Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, might be the best bit of casting I've done in my entire life. I think she's absolutely stunning in the movie," Gunn said at that time. Meanwhile, as soon as Gunn shared the new 'Supergirl' sneak peek, fans were quick to express their excitement. "I'm freaking out right now. I'm so beyond excited! I've been waiting for this," a netizen wrote, while another commented, "Looking forward to this...Gearing up for another fun cinematic experience." In case you're wondering, 'Supergirl' is scheduled to hit the screens on June 26, 2026.
