Glen Powell's 'The Comeback King' gets first look and release date as buzz builds
After ‘The Running Man’ and ‘How to Make a Killing,’ Glen Powell is set to star in an upcoming comedy film, ‘The Comeback King.’ He shared the first look on his Instagram on April 6, 2026. The first look featured the movie poster, revealing a mix of country and western elements. It includes a belt buckle with the movie name embedded with musical notes and a few other characteristics. The film is set to release on February 5, 2027.
'The Comeback King' will be directed by Judd Apatow, making it his first narrative film in four years. Powell will be playing the titular role and is also associated with co-writing the script. He will be featured as a Country Western star. Along with him, fans will witness co-stars Madelyn Cline, Cristin Milioti, Li Jin Hao, and Stavros Halkias. Cline is best known for 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' while Milioti earned recognition from her role in 'The Penguin.' Hao brings his background as a stand-up comedian to the film, and Halkias is notable for his work in 'Bugonia.'
Powell has been associated with Universal Studios since 2024 with his film 'Twisters.' 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' also features him behind Fox McCloud’s voice. As for Apatow, fans may know him from the 2022 Netflix film 'The Bubble,' Universal Studios' 'Knocked Up,' 'The King of Staten Island,' and 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin.' 'The Comeback King' will be produced by Apatow Productions, Universal Studios, along with Dan Cohen and Powell. Executive producers include Josh Church and Barry Mendel. Kevin Misher, a former Universal Studios president, will also be associated with the production part for Misher Films.
