'Supergirl' latest trailer drops big reveal with David Corenswet making an unexpected cameo
DC Studios recently dropped a new full-length trailer for the upcoming 'Supergirl' movie. The film will present the heartbreaking tale of Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, who lost her entire home planet. She will be joined by Ruthye Marye Knoll. In addition to this, Supergirl's fond friend and pet Krypto was also introduced in the trailer, seen roaming inside an apparently messy room replete with clothes, bottles, and other junk scattered here and there. However, these are not the only things that caught the fans' attention.
Perhaps one of the most important highlights of the new 'Supergirl' trailer is the fact that David Corenswet's Superman makes a surprise cameo appearance. There is a particular moment in the trailer where Corenswet's Clark Kent is seen dropping a video message for his cousin wherein he speaks, "Hey, it’s me, Clark, you know, I’m just worried cause you know… We miss you. Umm, I was just touching base to see when you think you might be coming back." Once Kent's image appears on the television screen, the trailer quickly cuts to Supergirl in her costume, then to her holding up her iPod and gradually increasing the volume of her song. One might speculate that, although Supergirl seems to be turning a cold shoulder to Superman, she might eventually come around to accept his familial love and care.
The upcoming movie is based on the 2022 comic book series 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,' illustrated by Bilquis Evely. The comic book source material depicts Supergirl accompanying the young alien girl Knolle in a journey across the galaxy to lay hands on Krem of the Yellow Hill, in the aftermath of the latter brutally murdering Knolle's father. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic book story for film. The 'Supergirl' movie is directed by Craig Gillespie, and the rest of the cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Looking past all the well-choreographed action sequences and raging battles, the upcoming movie is at its core an emotional tale that portrays Kara and Ruthye's friendship and ultimate reconciliation. The two characters are brought together by adversity, and that's exactly why they stick together. Elsewhere in the 'Supergirl' trailer, music plays a key role in setting the stage for the dramatic showdowns to follow. The Jimmy Ruffin track 'What Becomes of the Brokenhearted' plays in the background of the trailer and adds a new layer of meaning to Kara Zor-El's story. 'Supergirl' will release exclusively in theatres on June 26.
