'Weakest Link' features eight contestants, who are complete strangers, and who enter the 'Weakest Link' studio, with hopes of winning a possible $1 million. These contestants have to play together as a team to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round. The contestants must answer general knowledge questions to bank prize money across multiple rounds. A series of correct answers build chains and with each consecutive correct answer, the value of the chain increases, while an incorrect answer breaks the chain and the contestants have to start over to build the chain from the lowest amount available to win in that round. At the end of each round, the contestants vote out a person they perceive to be the 'Weakest Link'.

Following the elimination, the hostess aka Jane Lynch, says the iconic catchphrase, "You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye." The show's entertainment value is increased thanks to the sassy insults that the hostess throws at the contestants who answer the questions incorrectly.
