'The Weakest Link': What has former BBC show host Anne Robinson been up to?
As Jane Lynch takes over 'The Weakest Link' as its new host, we dig deep into what the BBC show's erstwhile anchor Anne Josephine Robinson has been up to. She stepped down from the iconic role after 12 years of entertaining viewers with her sharp and forthright wit that made the show seriously funny. The iconic line 'You're the weakest link! Goodbye' will always be special and missed once Jane takes over from Anne.
What has Anne been up to?
Her journey to becoming a household name and an inspiration for many began with a career in broadcast journalism. She was a TV presenter and journalist for many years before trying her hands in different roles across the entertainment and broadcast sectors. Anne likes to live a quiet life. Hence, ever since she quit 'The Weakest Link,' Anne has not made many headlines except when a few years ago she hosted a satirical TV news show 'What's the Problem? With Anne Robinson' on BBC. In 2016, she even presented 'Britain's Secrets with Anne Robinson' which highlighted, as the name suggests, the secrets of British life.
She tells it like it is but that approach has not always helped her stay above the surface. In 2017, she was accused of victim-blaming on social media when she decided to call out women who keep silent on occasions of sexual violence. This was in connection to the Harvey Weinstein episode and the sexual allegations leveled against him.
“In the early days 40 years ago there were very few of us women in power and I have to say, we had a much more robust attitude to men behaving badly," she told in BBC Radio 4’s Today program, and added: “The glass ceiling has been shattered but running alongside that is the fragility of the women who are unable to deal with the treachery of the workplace.”
This caused a furor across social media. Several keyboard warriors got together and called her out for making remarks that don't shed a good light on her and her reputation that she has worked so hard to built.
