LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO's reboot of 'Sex and the City', titled 'And Just Like That', is coming back for Season 2, as the network has just released a trailer. Despite the controversy encompassing the original show's reboot, the show is said to have had the strongest debut of any HBO Max series to date. The plot sees the return of beloved characters Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes as they navigate life in a post-pandemic world.

A trailer for the upcoming season is out, revealing that the story picks up three weeks after Season 1 ending. Carrie continues her efforts to accept and move on from Mr Big's death. And she ends up kissing her podcast producer. Miranda Hobbs moves to the West Coast to be with Che Diaz and Charlotte learns to let go of labels. There hasn't been plenty revealed about where the story will go with all these characters in Season 2. But based on Sarah Jessica Parker, Season 2 is full of resilience, rebound, laughter, and finding laughter more easily for people who have experienced grief.

A familiar face makes a return for Season 2

After a great deal of speculation, it finally became known that actor John Corbett, who played Carrie's ex-fiance Aidan Shaw, would be reprising his role for Season 2. The plot of Aidan's second season story is still unknown but the character is said to have a multi-episode arc on the show.

Aidan Shaw first made an appearance on 'Sex and the City' in Season 3, following Carrie's split from Mr Big, and he also appeared in the movie version of 'Sex and the City'. Carrie and Aidan quickly grew into one of the show's most popular couples, but she had several run-ins with Mr Big, which led to her cheating on Aidan with Big, and after she admitted that to Shaw, their relationship ended.

Aidan comes back to Carrie's life in Season 4 when he and Steve open a bar, and the two at some point choose to put the cheating thing behind them and give their romance an honest chance. The couple moves in together, and Aidan appears it is the right time to propose to Carrie, who accepts. However, after a bit, she begins to feel smothered by the potential wedding plans, which is when she realizes that Aidan who said that he just wants to be married to her and suggested that they elope, may still question if she is faithful to him, and the couple breaks up for the second time.

Carrie briefly runs into Aidan again in Season 6, only to discover that he and his wife Kathy have three sons, and then, in the follow-up film, which aired in 2010, Carrie reunites with Aidan after an opportunity meeting in Abu Dhabi. The dinner results in an unexpected kiss, which Carrie tells Big, prompting him to rethink their relationship and make some changes for their marriage to work.

‘Aidan was wrong for Carrie’

When asked executive producer Michael Patrick King why Aidan Shaw didn’t make an appearance in Season 1 of ‘And Just Like That’, King told Deadline, "It really just felt like this was a lot for Carrie. This season was a lot. We wanted to get her through [Big's death] and into the light — the last episode is called, 'Seeing the Light.' We wanted to get her out. [Aidan's return] is a big storyline that everybody at home wrote that we had never intended”.

The executive producer also mentioned during an interview with Variety that, "Aidan was wrong for Carrie because she likes a complicated puzzle. They were the perfect couple, Carrie and Aidan, that was imperfect because of how she feels." Michael Patrick King returns as the executive producer of the show but Darren Star, the original creator of the series is no longer involved.

Some fans speculated that Aidan Shaw's return for the second season after Mr Big, played by Chris Noth, abruptly left the show could be an attempt by the show's creators to save the reboot. Even though it premiered strongly, the show has been strongly criticized since its announcement. Noth, who had sexual harassment cases filed against him, was written off the show after his character died in season one. Shaw's return may appear to be a saving grace, but nothing can be said for certain.

Future seems uncertain for Miranda Hobbs and Che Diaz

Fans can also see Che Diaz, played on-screen by Sara Ramirez, making a return in the trailer. Tony Danza, a sitcom veteran, has also been confirmed to join the cast for Season 2 and will play Che Diaz's father on the show. Miranda, who chooses to move to Los Angeles to be with Diaz, may have remained with her for the three-week break, but the fact that she was seen filming a scene in New York City suggests that the Los Angeles stint may not have lasted very long.

The trailer does not set up a firm storyline for Season 2 of 'And Just Like That,' and that makes sense since it wants to keep people guessing about what will happen next to their favorite characters. The show's return date has not been announced, but it is expected to return in June 2023.
