What could be the most emotional part of the movie?

We have three words for you: Major character death. It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, it hits you harder than ever. If there's one genre that can truly experiment with this trope, it's the superhero genre. MCU has already said goodbye to some big characters like Iron Man and Black Widow, so who is next in line? The fate rests in James Gunn's hands.

There have been several predictions of which character might die in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3' but a couple of names definitely stand out - Mantis and Rocket. Frankly, either of these character's death would be incredibly emotional, so it's no wonder Gunn is warning fans ahead of its release. In an interview with Collider, Gunn says, “There's a lot of crying happening. But it's not all sad crying, there's a lot of happy crying in the movie, there's a lot of joy in the film.” This statement is a bittersweet reflection on the newest phases of the MCU, and Gunn’s goodbye to the franchise.

Gunn focuses on DC as he bids goodbye to MCU

You know how when parents have two children and one of them leaves for college, the focus shifts completely to the other sibling? That’s what’s happening with James Gunn, and MCU, the Guardians, in particular, is the child he’s saying goodbye to. Gunn has a lot in store for DC moving forward, but considering the ongoing rivalry between Marvel and DC, which has been around for the longest time, people have mixed feelings about this, and rightfully so.

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3' is Gunn’s goodbye to Marvel fans, but is he taking a page out of the darkness of DC? Fans of both these franchises are well aware that Marvel is the more light-hearted one in comparison, but lately, things have been getting darker, and Gunn seems to have played a part in this too. Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to, but if you’re a fan of James Gunn and DC, then you’re about to get that younger sibling treatment and about to be spoilt rotten with movies like ‘Superman: Legacy'. Marvel and DC can continue their rivalry against each other for years to come, but at least James Gunn can happily add both franchises to his LinkedIn, and in the most brilliant fashion possible!

You can watch 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3' from May 5, 2023, in theaters near you.
