Up for a dystopian thriller? What if it also touches on geopolitics but at its core happens to be a story about a mother looking for her long-lost son? If the answer's yes, then 'DMZ' is the show for you! Starring Rosario Dawson, Benjamin Bratt, Freddy Miyares, and Hoon Lee, the HBO miniseries is a riveting watch

Beginning with Alma Ortega (Rosario Dawson) going about her duties as a medic at an intake facility in Brooklyn, we soon find out that a second civil war broke out in America eight years ago and that she was separated from Christian, her only son, while evacuating Manhattan, which is now a demilitarized area. Alma has looked for him in both the United States and the Free States but her efforts went in vain. With the DMZ being the only region that she hasn't searched yet, Alma ventures into it and this results in her getting caught up in the ongoing political crisis.  Alma finds out that the DMZ is heading toward its first election and that out of the two contenders one happens to be Wilson (Hoon Lee) an old friend of hers while the other is Parco (Benjamin Bratt) her ex-husband. She finally gets to see her son (Freddy Miyares) but he isn't the same person and he's also involved in her ex's affairs.

After finding out about Parco's intentions, Alma supports Wilson and a turn of events results in her contesting in the election. We're sure the HBO miniseries left viewers with some questions so read on to know more about how 'DMZ' ended.

What happened to Parco Delgado?

Parco, the Spanish Harlem don and ex-husband of Alma, was shown making a deal with the US army that would help him become the governor of the DMZ. However, Alma finds out about it and with Skel's help stops Parco in his tracks. A gory fistfight breaks out, which ends with Skel emerging victorious. Parco is apprehended and handed over to the army, bringing an end to his twisted political aspirations.

What is to become of Christian/Skel?

Chrisitan, now known as Skel in the DMZ, is Alma's son who functions as Parco's right-hand man. He is feared by all and ends up rebuffing Alma during her attempts to reconnect, as he felt that she always held him back. After turning against Parco, Skel is shown helping Alma defeat him and 'DMZ' ends with Skel and his girlfriend leaving the region in search of a new life.

Who is the new leader?

'DMZ' began with Wilson and Parco contesting to become the governor of the region. Following Wilson's demise, Alma replaces him under the name Zee. Owing to her deep understanding of the DMZ inhabitants' woes and the support of Oona, Alma is made the governor and new leader of Manhattan.

What's the status of the DMZ?

Following Alma's victory, the US army pulls back from the DMZ, seemingly recognizing it as a free state. She abolishes the crew system in the region, with the hopes of founding a harmonious society. However, only time will tell whether she is able to lead the DMZ into prosperous and peaceful times.

'DMZ' is available for streaming on HBO Max.
