'Hawkeye' Episode 5 Spoilers: What if Eleanor Bishop is the actual villain?

Spoilers for 'Hawkeye' Episode 5 'Ronin'

It shouldn't come as a surprise if 'Hawkeye' shows Clint Barton's death in the finale. It's going to be a terrible Christmas present really, but in a way, it will be the most logical and ideal way to bring Clint Barton's (Jeremy Renner) Avenger career to a full circle. The penultimate episode switched gears seamlessly as it showed Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D' Onofrio) as the big baddie, or unless we're mistaken, it might actually be Vera Farmiga's Eleanor Bishop calling the shots.

While the exact reason is unknown, this could have much to do with the fact that she nurses a beef against the Avengers. Note that her husband was one of the victims in the 2012 battle of New York. What if she blamed the Avengers for his death? This isn't a new plot in the MCU. The Sokovia Accords came into existence after the Avengers were accused of unintentionally killing people while trying to save the world. Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark/Iron Man was slammed by a woman who'd lost her son during the war against Ultron.

Naturally, this could be a case of revenge against Barton. And in a way to keep herself hidden, she probably met up with Fisk and assigned him the task of killing Barton, who in turn, hired Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) to finish off the Avenger. The other theory was how easily she managed to apprehend Jack Duquesne for his shady dealings who claims he was framed. In her mind, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) could be the new Hawkeye and if that means killing off Clint Barton, it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Either way, the end seems bleak for Barton. He's still grieving over Natasha Romanoff's death and he has a villain who can make a name for himself if he kills an Avenger. How the gripping finale pans out is anyone's guess.

What are your thoughts on Eleanor Bishop being the actual villain?
