Contains spoilers for 'Hawkeye' Episode 5 'Ronin'

'Hawkeye' Episode 5 gave the fans an in-depth look at the friendship that Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) shared. After the previous episode brought back Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova in the mix, 'Ronin' just threw more light on the character last seen in 'Black Widow' by not just seeing her build a relationship of sorts with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), but also in revealing that Barton knew about Romanoff's sister.

In the final minutes of the episode, Yelena shadows Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga) and sends a message to Kate telling her she knows who her boss is. Prior to that, the young archer rescues Barton after his scrimmage with Maya Lopez/Echo (Alaqua Cox) where he reveals his true identity as the Ronin and warns her to stay away from his family. However, he is caught off-guard by Maya and just as he gets ready to strike a killing blow, Kate interrupts and saves Barton.

On their way back, Kate tells him about her encounter with Natasha's sister only for Barton to reveal her name as 'Yelena'. This was proof that Nat and Barton shared their secrets. In hindsight, this might just be what he needs to unite with the new Black Widow and perhaps takedown Fisk, who is introduced as the latest threat. Twitter exploded about the fact that Barton knew about Yelena. "It took 5 episodes, but #Hawkeye's finally gotten good. Intriguing complications & character moments, real #Ronin action, even a 20th anniversary-appropriate #TheRoyalTenenbaums gag. But mainly because - what else? - #Yelena,": a tweet read.

"Ok this #hawkeye episode was so good! Aahhh the #Yelena scene in the beginning, love how they keep showing #MayaLopez using her prosthetic leg as a defense when fighting, on top of just being a badass, and of course, the ending of next weeks episode has got a lot to handle," one of the fans wrote. "#Hawkeye Episode 5 felt like a part two of the three-part finale for the season. It had a BIG reveal but really set the table for next week. #KateBishop and #Yelena convo scene was solid."

There were also theories that Farmiga's Eleanor was the one behind the assignment. "#Hawkeye WAIT , EVEYTHING MAKES SENSE! At the end of Blackwidow, #Yelena is approached by Val who was also in #TFATWS, Eleanor runs a security firm that got the picture of Clint as RONIN Eleanor works for KINGPIN Everyone is connected," a tweet read. "#Hawkeye Holy shit… Yelena, Kingpin canon… my mind is blown. Kate’s mom sus from ep. 1 but didn’t see this coming," seconded another tweet.
