'Grey's Anatomy' season 16: Teddy and Owen might find their way back, but Jackson and Maggie could end their relationship
'Grey's Anatomy' is all set to premiere on ABC after a year-long wait and fans can't stop speculating about the couples on the series. The longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history ended on a cliffhanger with the fate of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) sealed in a mystery with jailtime threatening their future.
Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson Karev (Camilla Luddington)'s marriage woes are also one of the biggest talking points of the new season. Many other romantic connections were left hanging by a thread — right from Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) to Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and hardcore followers of the series dropped major speculative tweets about what lies ahead for the two couples.
Most fans are looking forward to Owen and Teddy finally settling down with each other after Teddy gave birth to baby Leo. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) already walked away from Owen, declaring, "I need to step out of the circle . . . I'm not in it anymore." Moreover, as Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) wears his heart on his sleeve for Teddy, is there any future for Owen and Teddy?
"Now the big question is... how is that necklace going to get to Teddy’s neck? Owen’s gift? Teddy will buy to seal their family union and fully accepting Leo as her son? Some of both? #GreysAnatomy," one fan wrote, while another tweeted, "Owen and teddy will get engaged. That's his thing, he did it with Christina and Amelia but neither of them wanted a baby, and he has one with Teddy now so it just makes sense that they do."
"The whole world knows Owen and Teddy belong together except Owen and Teddy," one viewer went on to say, and another one posted: "I think this gif sums up Owen and Teddy’s relationship perfectly. Owen didn’t even have to tell Teddy to come. She just did. She knows him so well." "Owen looking at Teddy. Owen looking at the mother of his daughter. I think Owen and Teddy will be canon really soon #GreysAnatomy," one tweet read. However, not everyone is shipping them together. "I’m still so mad that Owen picked teddy #GreysAnatomy," one wrote and another one posted, "Owen and Teddy are just gross human beans, and I do not want to look at any of their faces. please, be done with them soon."
The relationship between Jackson and Maggie, on the other hand, seems to have hit a roadblock. In a roundabout way, the two are step-siblings. And the two are emotionally unavailable and that has been causing too many problems. "Jackson and Maggie continue to be the blandest couple in the history of Grey's Anatomy," one user tweeted and another one said, "So excited for season 16. Jackson and Maggie need to break up because they are the worst couple on the show."
Moreover, with Jackson's continuous conversations with every new girl on the block, the bigger question is: What would Jaggie be like if Maggie refused to let Jackson dominate her? Fans still ship Jackson with his ex April Kepner (Sarah Drew). "It's her fault she annoyed him so damn hard. Her whole character is annoying and immature and has no compatibility with Jackson," one user opined and another one tweeted: "Jackson had already found the right person for him and always was April, now that they are more mature than ever and Maggie will never be with a firefighter she thinks she's better and wants someone of her professional level, just don't see who doesn't want to!!!"
As the first episode premieres on ABC this Thursday, September 26 at 8 pm EST, the answers will be revealed.
