'Grey's Anatomy' season 16: Meredith Grey and DeLuca's relationship may hit a roadblock with jailtime threatening their future

The makers of 'Grey's Anatomy' rolled out its teaser-trailer for season 16 and fans are blown away with Ellen Pompeo's new avatar as Meredith Grey in an orange jumpsuit with a broomstick.

Crowned as the longest-running medical drama series, 'Grey's Anatomy' already has 15 seasons in its kitty and is set to unleash two more. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the ABC show rolled out its teaser-trailer for season 16 and fans are blown away with Ellen Pompeo's new avatar as Meredith Grey in an orange jumpsuit with a broomstick. It seems she has taken up community service after being fired from the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Season 15 ended on a cliffhanger as Grey committed insurance fraud in order to save a young girl's life. Her love interest Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) owned up the crime to keep Meredith away from the wrath of the law. So, is DeLuca just a fool in love who is going to prison for it?

DeLuca took the fall for her completely. "Your patient, Gabby Rivera — I lied to you. She didn’t have insurance, and she shouldn’t have been admitted, but I wanted her to get the surgery very badly, so I didn’t tell anybody, so I put another name down on the paperwork. Your daughter’s name, Ellis," he said. In his confession, he made it clear that he was doing it not because Meredith’s kids needed him, but was fully aware that it could lead to major jail time.

The finale left a lot of questions unanswered but the plotline of season 16 picks up right where it ended. The quirky tagline "Orange is the new Grey" pops up in the trailer and shows Meredith picking up the trash by the street. "Dr. Grey? Is this some kind of volunteer thing?" Grey Sloan's therapist quizzes her, as she drives by with a bewildered look. "Something like that," Meredith answers back.

What will happen to Meredith and DeLuca’s love story now that DeLuca is set for a supposed arrest after the last scene? A complex relationship drama is definitely coming our way as DeLuca's and Meredith’s relationship is put to a test. All throughout the last season, MerLuca’s romance gradually developed and fans started wondering whether the two characters could be seriously involved.

However, several fans expressed their disapproval towards their relationship, especially because he is quite young and immature to be in a relationship. "Honestly I don't like it, not because he is young, because she needs someone mature enough to deal with her life, someone, who can be with the sun that is full of kids, and really enjoyed that life. Andrew doesn't seem like that type of a guy, but if they wanna make it short and fun for Meredith until she's ready to settle with a guy who can handle her life and make her truly happy, he definitely can get it for a while," one user posted.

Moreover, with all the complications, their relationship certainly seems to have hit a roadblock. However, there is still a slight hope as DeLuca was ready to sacrifice his life and end up in jail for Meredith and her kids' sake. As sweet as it sounds, it is also a tad bit stupid and as the new season rolls out on September 16, it is to be seen which direction the romance goes.
