'The Bachelorette' 2022: Fans left unimpressed after Erich and Gabby's 'forced proposal'

Fans are questioning what made Erich change his mind on proposing to Gabby

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Erich Schwer proposed to Gabby Windey in the September 20 episode with a magnificent Neil Lane engagement diamond during part two of 'The Bachelorette' finale. Fans, on the other hand, are unimpressed since they witnessed their tale unfold and are unsure if Erich was truly on board.

Part 2 of 'The Bachelorette' finale began with a heated debate between Gabby Windey and Erich Schwer over whether it was too soon for an engagement, but their journey finished with a proposal at the final rose ceremony. Gabby had previously informed Erich that she loved him before the last rose ceremony, and she reaffirmed her sentiments when they finally met in Mexico. Erich dropped down on one knee and proposed with an oval-shaped Neil Lane ring, and the emotions were reciprocal. The huge diamond was set in a gold ring, but fans doubt if Erich was really set on proposing to Gabby.

Erich was the last man remaining for Gabby going into Part 2 of the finale and she received the happy ending she desired. Gabby began the rose ceremony by declaring her love for Erich. "With you standing here right in front of me, you remind me of a love I’ve only ever known in my dreams," Gabby said. “You’ve loved me before I knew how to love me. You fought for me so hard at a battle that neither of us knew the outcome of. You do mean the world to me. I thought you were too good to be true, but now I know you are too good, but you’re also true. I love you and I want to love you as long as you let me and for much longer after that.”

Erich had his own speech before getting down on one knee. "It’s pretty hard for me to articulate all the time," Erich said, "but I think last time we saw each other was really hard just because we’ve been waiting for this to be real. I know you had hesitations about me, and I didn’t know if I could measure up. You deserve somebody who’s going to give you 100 percent, is there undeniably and unconditionally for you. The reason I’m standing in front of you is because I want to be that person for you. One of the things I like about you the most is that you bring out the best in me. The stars literally had to align for me to be here. You’ve got to call it fate. I was scared to meet you, I was really nervous, and then we had our two or three little chats…our connection was insane. What I think back on the most is that when I met you, I immediately was 100 percent myself. I never met anybody I felt that comfortable with. I felt like I knew you for years. At the time, I didn’t know it, but I had met my soulmate. You finally let your barriers down and our relationship transcended to this insane level. You literally make me feel like I’m the only person in the world. I will fight every day for the rest of my life to keep that feeling. I love you, Gabby Windey. You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met. It’s you and me until the wheels fall off. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

Fans thought Gabby's acceptance of his proposal occurred as a result of her incessant pestering. As they watched the season unfold and witnessed Erich's hesitancy to propose just eight weeks of knowing Gabby, they questioned whether he proposed because he wanted to. A fan questioned how quick was it for Erich to come around on this decision: "Missed the 1st couple of minutes. Can someone fill me in, last week Erich was saying he wasn't ready to propose and Gabby was crying to producers.. did he change his mind? What happened? #TheBachelorettes." Another fan agreeing to Erich's earlier stance on proposing to someone only after knowing them for few weeks wrote: "There is no way someone should propose at the end of this show. You don’t really know these people! #TheBachelorettes." Calling their proposal a 'forced' one, another fan tweeted: "It’s the forced proposal we all waited for #TheBachelorettes." Criticizing the women's choice to getting proposed to by the end of the season, one fan tweeted: "wild how both women wanted/expected engagements but one of them wanted it at the cost of everything else and the other was willing to move forward not sure if a proposal would come #thebachelorette #bachelorette."

Calling out Erich for his orchestrated proposal, one viewer wrote: "He delivered that proposal with all the romance a kid in Grade 7 giving a presentation, knowing his parents will bring him to a movie for doing well. #TheBachelorette." Some fans even shared how they didn't expect for Erich to propose to Gabby: "I actually didn’t think he’d propose I’m shocked #TheBachelorette."
