Fans are excited as they get to see a new side to the Girls' Generation leader with the release of 'Weekend'

Summer queen Taeyeon is back with the release of her digital single, ‘Weekend’. Even before the release, she was trending on Bugs, Genie and MelOn as knetizens were excited about her newest song. She had last performed ‘What Do I Call You’ live for the first time for an SMTOWN concert and had been featured in labelmate Taemin’s ‘If I Could Tell You’. This is her first solo single in more than six months.

‘Weekend’ happens to be a disco-pop song with a fun and vibrant music video that shows us a different side to the Girls’ Generation’s leader. A retro arrangement full of synths and soft guitar, Taeyeon raps and shows off her mellow side while still proving her position as the main vocalist of her group. The idol stated that she wanted her fans to enjoy this bright song that would help them forget their worries even if it is just for a moment.

SM Entertainment released Taeyeon’s ‘Weekend’ on July 6 at 6 pm KST (5 AM ET).

Comeback Schedule

Taeyeon held a VLive showcase an hour before the release where she spoke about the track and interacted with fans. She will also be promoting the song on music shows and interviews. A part of her schedule has been released by Daum:

Fans ended up trending #WEEKENDwithTAEYEON and ‘TUESDAY IS WEEKEND’ to hype up the release of the single. One fan tweeted, “Appreciation post for taeyeon's pretty styles on this mv.” Another tweeted, “Everyone shut up and look at dancer taeyeon she’s been back after many yrs.” A fan couldn’t get over one part of the song as they tweeted, “And when she performs live and sings this line in one breathe tHEN WHAT???”

A fan couldn’t believe Taeyeon was rapping as they tweeted, “Rapper Taeng coming through!” Another fan tweeted about Taeyeon showing off the key point in her choreography during the VLive, “Look at her cute dancing.” One fan even found a way to connect the music video to SM’s newest project KWANGYA, “The beginning of kwangya universe. when black mamba hacked the girls's computer and created a evil version of them. the evil twins disappeared for a while but they came back stronger than ever and taeyeon had to travel to kwangya to find the other good girls”
