Global fans and viewers, who have grown up watching ABC's ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and absolutely adore the lead protagonist Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) would feel teary-eyed on learning about this new development. The People’s Choice Award-winning star is all set to move on and start a fresh chapter in her career as her character of Meredith Grey, is going to get reduced in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 19. For those who are unaware, ever since the show’s inception back in 2005, it has become one of the most iconic and cult television series which has been given plaudits and accolades by fans and critics for its riveting themes and gritty storyline alongside an array of brilliant performances by the cast in every season.

In the Season 18 finale of ABC’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, Ellen Pompeo’s character Meredith Grey was seen making a firm decision not to move to Minnesota. Whilst Meredith would still be staying at Grey Sloan Memorial as an interim Chief of Surgery, we will see less of her next season. Pompeo will make her appearance in only eight episodes of the upcoming 19th season, which is now starting production and filming. She will still be seen continuing as a narrator but certainly won’t be seen doing the voice-over in each episode. Interestingly, Pompeo would still remain as an executive producer on the hugely popular medical drama, which remains ABC’s top scripted series.

This news of Ellen Pompeo’s role getting reduced had been dropped by a journalist on her official Twitter handle.

As soon as this news got confirmed by the journalist, fans took to Twitter and dropped in their opinions. Many of them resonated on the fact that there can be no ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ without Meredith Grey and many of them said the makers should actually end the show and season already since there’s no point in continuing without Meredith’s character.

“I respect that Ellen is ready to open a new chapter… I applaud that… but let’s just call #GreysAnatomy what it is.. OVER. There is simply no Grey’s Anatomy w/o Meredith Grey. Soo age the kids up, and get the spin-off ready… ,” said a fan. “This will feel different but glad she will still narrate each episode,” shared another fan. “And why did they give it another season. They should have just ended it,” said a fan. “Nah. End it this is a joke,” a fan added. “Just end it already,” shared a fan. “Wow guess we'll see how #GreysAnatomy does without her this season. It's a test,” noted a fan. “After 19 seasons we cannot blame her but it will not be the same #GreysAnatomy,” a fan shared.

For those who are unaware, Ellen is all set to star in and also executively produce a Hulu series. Also, this is the first time in the past two decades that she would be seen essaying a character other than Meredith Grey. Hulu’s 'Orphan' limited series is inspired by the real-life story of Ukrainian-born Natalia Grace and her US adoptive parents who claimed that she was an adult “sociopath” pretending to be a child.

Pompeo’s desire and ambitions to go out of her safe comfort zone and take on new acting challenges that prove her versatility as an actor is believed to be the main factor behind her decision to do fewer episodes of Grey’s. This is true that the ABC drama has been keeping her really busy as it has been producing as many as 25 episodes a year for a total of 400 to date.
