With the year coming to an end, we have charts and platforms collating their data to check which is the most engaging project of 2021. With ‘Squid Game’ being watched in more than 90 countries, we already know that the K-drama will be a strong contender for the most-watched Netflix show. And it looks like South Korea is also taking over in other fields like music. The global K-pop group BTS has released some iconic English hits over the past year like ‘Dynamite’, ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’.

We also saw them making history in various areas such as Special Presidential Envoys for the 76th United Nations General Assembly, the first Asian act to win a grand prize ‘Artist of the Year’ at the AMAs and now they are having sold-out concerts. BTS is holding its first set of offline concerts after more than two years. And fans thronged to see their favorites perform making BTS the first act to sell out four concerts at SoFi stadium, LA. It is also the first time that live performances are being streamed on YouTube Theater for international fans.

BTS the 1st Asian act to top Apple Music’s Most Streamed Song Chart

Apart from that, BTS has once again made a record on the music streaming platform, Apple Music. On November 30, Apple Music released year-end charts of different criteria like Most Streamed and Most Read Lyrics charts. Their aim is to highlight the biggest songs that impacted the world over the last year. And 2021 is a good year for K-pop as we also have a lot of non-fans branching out and finally giving into Korean artists. BTS’ English song, ‘Dynamite’ is the most-streamed song on Apple Music in 2021. The single was released in August 2020 and had broken records and topped several charts like iTunes, Gaon, and Billboard.

‘Dynamite’ makes BTS the first Asian act to top Apple Music’s Most Streamed Songs Chart. Additionally, their recent release, ‘Butter’ also made it on the list at #21. ‘Dynamite’ also ranked at #4 on the Most-Read Lyrics Chart for 2021 followed by ‘Butter’ at #13. Apple Music shared that due to the pandemic, a lot of people were stuck in their homes and turned to music for comfort. The most-streamed songs from October 2020 to October 2021 that they compiled reflect the hope that the songs gave everyone. They added, “What they all have in common, from hip-hop upstarts to a wave of Japanese artists striving in streaming to a K-pop juggernaut primed for planetary domination, is that they brought comfort and catharsis at a time when we all needed them most."
